// JustGuitar pt21 - Stay Together for the Kids \\ Back when you could program custom 8-bit ringtones on old Nokia phones, I recall spending hours by the piano piecing together the guitar intro for this @blink182 song, labouring through the keypad (no touchscreen on this badboy) and proudly making this my ringtone. For better or worse, I also remember the chuckle I had when I realised the pun behind Take off your Pants and Jacket 😂

These days songs from that era kind of fade to a dusted corner of my mind, but during my workout yesterday I’d come across a story from @svintmvrcus recommending First Date from that album as a workout track. Who would’ve thought? Ended up giving that album a spin for the rest of my workout and this song brought me back to hours spent hunched over that piano, the pun chuckle, and thinking how this song made me like Blink even more cuz they’d grown up from Enema of the State, but what did I know about growing up back then 👾

My Nokia 8210 has long disappeared so I ended up spending the rest of the evening piecing together the song on the acoustic this time around. Started off playing the melody on the electric, but there was such a rush of memories and thoughts from yesteryears I couldn’t help but deviate from the original to just noodle and see what came out. So here it is - my second stab at this not-so cover of my favourite Blink song, decades later, graduating from an 8-bit phone to my favourite guitars 🎸

An active member of the band Fant4stik with Guigoo, Billx and Floxytek, Mat Weasel has been for years one of the leaders of the Hardtek scene. With a unique ability to seamlessly mix between powerful tracks and 90’s pop punk rave bootlegs, he is proving to be an essential and significant link between the different hard beats scenes: Hardtek, Frenchcore, UK Hardcore and Happy Hardcore.
Mat’s first releases in the late 90’s were like an electroshock on the Hardtekno scene of this time, his Happy Hardcore and Makina influences contrasted so much with the hypnotic and spiritual sounds from other producers. He was the first to release Hardtek at 200bpm, the first to use “kick-bass” based tracks (a bass shot offbeat between two kicks) and tricky cuts every 4 bars. His first vinyl release directly launched him to the top of scene, alongside other artists of his generation: Guigoo, Kefran, Vinka, Gotek, MSD…

Mat Weasel has played an impressive range of venues, from the biggest festivals like Monegros, Dreambeach, Masters of Hardcore, Ground Zero and many more to the best clubs like Pacha, Magazzini Generali, Le Bikini… And he has rocked parties all around the world, from China, Japan, Venezuela and Russia, as well as nearly every single European country!
