The Polish born artist’s ear for dark grooves and emotive electro has enabled ona:v to carve out a path as a DJ in Edinburgh whilst working as a scientist by day. Founder of the female and non-binary collective EPiKA, the sisu resident curates a bi-monthly party called CiRCLE, where she books female and non-binary names from the harder side of electronic music.

Materielle Radio 003 Mini Mix - Dub Techno (136 BPM)

Inez Akker is a Spanish Techno DJ and producer based in The Hague (Netherlands). Born in Madrid, she grew up in a family of artists and musicians and inherited her love for Techno from her dad at a very early age. After being absolutely passionate about Electronic Music since she was a toddler, her DJ career only started in 2018 shortly after moving to the Netherlands, inspired by Alex Mart and Gabo Lora, co-founders and owners of Papaya Music, a record label/promoter where she became one of their resident DJs.

In quite a short time, her style got her to share line-ups with Dimi (AnD), Olivier Weiter, Cliff de Zoete, Dexon and Kike Pravda, among many others, in Melkweg, H7 Warehouse
(Amsterdam), PIP and Het Magazijn (The Hague).

She has also played in different radio stations, both in the Netherlands and abroad (Haarlem 105, Fox Radio Belfast, Layzer Tunes, Spuistreet Records Radio) and has been invited to record guest mixes at well-renowned podcasts (Outerspace, Papaya Radio, Winked Records).

She just finished her first Techno EP, which will be released in the upcoming months.

She has a special taste for hard beat Dark Techno –a musical genre she uses to express her deepest feelings, thoughts, and impulses. Under her motto "The world needs more Techno", her mixes are noticed by a dark but powerful drive that tells the story of each DJ Set.

Jannik has been creating electronic music since he was young, fueled by a passion for improvisation and a talent for music production. His love for making noise with computers began at a young age.

Influenced by the pioneering sounds of breakbeat and ambient, Jannik has honed a unique and minimalistic style, drawing inspiration from artists such as Skee Mask, Aquarian, Aphex Twin, and Stanislav Tolkachev.

In 2015, Jannik was introduced to the innovative sounds of Sleeparchive, and the two artists quickly formed a connection. After long conversations about music, Sleeparchive invited Jannik to release on his label, a major milestone in Jannik's career. Today, he continues to be influenced by Sleeparchive's groundbreaking work and incorporates elements of his style into his own music. 

After taking a five-year hiatus from music, Jannik is back and more motivated than ever. The recent innovations in sound after the COVID-19 pandemic have reignited his passion for creating music and he is excited to share his new work with the world. As a rising talent in the techno world, Jannik is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of electronic music and making a name for himself as an artist. With a passion for innovation and a desire to live off of his creative pursuits, Jannik is excited to share his music with the world.

Eric Umble is a versatile artist based in Brooklyn, known for his skills in sound art, clarinet, DJing, and event production. He has a classical music background and a passion for experimental sounds, which inspired his transition to DJing. Eric is also the co-founder, lead producer, and resident of FACETIME, a community-based platform that promotes music, dance, and visual art through events in NYC and beyond. He is a regular performer at various venues in New York, offering an eclectic blend of driving, hypnotic, uplifting, melodic, and groovy beats that never fail to mesmerize his audience.

The mix features minimal, driving, and loopy techno tracks that intensify the uplifting and melodic elements. Eric incorporates disco and house elements, using acapella vocal loops to enhance the minimal material. He mixed with two CDJs, keeping the energy high with a fast style and exploring slower tracks at higher speeds. The recording was a single take, intentionally raw and unpolished, showcasing the energy that resulted from taking risks.

With your classical background, what do you think are some elements that are similar between techno and classical music?
"On a personal note, my entire musical life has been a journey of honing into the spaces where I felt seen, supported, actualized, and safe. This started with an interest in clarinet as a closeted queer kid growing up in a Mennonite family in PA. I didn't have language to process my experience as a queer person, and clarinet gave me a method to communicate beyond words, along with a community. Discovering techno took this to a new level for me. As a DJ, I aim to share this sense of community and safety, hoping to contribute to spaces where others can feel safe enough to take a step toward healing. This is what techno does for me, and it's what I hope we can all do together through sharing and holding space for each other.

On a musical note, my favorite music to perform as a clarinetist was long-form and repetitive, and I became curious about how musical material develops over time and how methods of progression affect our experience of time. I also performed a lot of process-music that explores musical forms driven by the means and parameters of a given process vs. the traditional linear development of material. I find these concepts present everywhere in techno. When listening to a classical work that reaches a musical climax, I always want it to STAY THERE for a while and live in that climax. But it doesn't; the line continues somewhere else. Techno can sometimes feel like the climax is always there, never releasing, and unrelenting. I find this unresolved tension deeply cathartic."

Materielle is leaving a lasting imprint on the worldwide sonic tapestry that is dub techno. Her style pays homage to the genre’s deep roots in sound system culture while innovating to broaden its horizons. A familiar face at clubs and warehouse spaces throughout Southern California, Materielle has firmly engrained herself in West Coast techno. Her spacious sound signature breaks from the local scene’s status quo, however.

Despite having now played records casually for over a decade, Materielle waited until 2019 to start her professional music career. She debuted at The LASH in LA, and in the years since she has performed at Academy LA, BANG BANG in San Diego, and Techno Taco Tuesday in Las Vegas. She also regularly plays at underground parties organized by Dirty Epic, Synthetic Minds, Incognito, and 6AM, not the least of which is the Spring 2023 edition of RE/FORM FESTIVAL.

2019 also marked the launch of DECKREKORD. Originally Materielle’s Twitch channel, it grew popular as the COVID pandemic unfolded the following year and naturally expanded to function as a record label. Her first-ever track release, “Dichotomy,” appeared on the imprint’s inaugural 2021 compilation The Offering. Soon afterward, she landed on Delusional Records
with a remix of “Out of the Shadows” by label cofounder Marie Nyx and they later signed her third release. “Satin,” a 2022 single that speaks to Materielle’s range of creative expression. Lush and atmospheric yet purpose built for the dance floor, its brutalist synth stabs perforate
tightly woven ripples of reverb delay. Materielle captures a similar dynamic in her DJ sets. She alternates seamlessly between airy ambience and low end frequencies that somehow resonate at a high vibration to explore the cerebral side of dance music.

Materielle has positioned herself to open the minds of music lovers across the globe. With each passing day, her future grows more closely intertwined with that of dub techno.
