ASIP is the acronym and DJ name of Ryan Griffin, founder of the A Strangely Isolated Place label and the 9128.live collective listening radio station. Founded in 2008 as a blog, A Strangely Isolated Place has now come to be described as a record label for ‘Ambient adjacent' music and this ethos can be heard as a source of inspiration within many of ASIP’s DJ sets. A Strangely Isolated Place also plays host to the long running isolated mix series, with DJ’ing being a primary source of driving creativity and inspiration for ASIP.

Often choosing to focus on strict concepts that highlight various angles of the music he enjoys, ASIP has gone so far as to reinterpret the KLF's Chill Out, cut-up classic Trance Loops, and depict the three stages of sleeping within his previous mixes online. However, ASIP live DJ sets are often more free-flowing; traversing many styles, and focus on the attentive side of Ambient music: lean-in, emphasizing narrative, versus the background music you come to expect with Ambient. 

Founded in the UK, but since relocating to the USA in 2013, ASIP and the label HQ can now be found hiding in Los Angeles.

I Grew Up Here is taken from Kit's debut album titled, Trẻ em, the first release from the ASIP Places Series. Personally recorded sounds from Vietnam have been blended with a wide range of electronic music to create a journey through Kit's experience of the country. Trẻ em will be available from 13/04 and will be accompanied by some amazing track-by-track artwork. 

"This track features the most samples from Vietnam in one song. The guitar you hear at the start is a segment from a recording of me playing in The Peace House. As the song evolves you are dropped into the city of Hanoi in Northern Vietnam. These samples were all taken during the summer of 2010 in Hanoi whenever I visited the centre. The bells you hear are from a church just off the main roundabout by the Lake. After that you start to hear drums, at this point what you are hearing are 4 different samples of Vietnamese drums from 4 different places in the country. As that continues you can hear a woman singing, this was taken from an amusement park very close to The Peace House. Finally you hear The Peace House bell, Mr. Thai chatting in the office and a performance in Ho Chi Minh during there eclectic food festival.

This track was the most time consuming out of all of them, the first half was created during the middle of my trip in August of 2010 and it got to a point where I became lost with its direction. After various versions of the second half I had to sit back and just remember what I was trying to do with the song. A journey, the sadness of leaving Vietnam, but also the excitement and joy of looking back on the whole trip, going home with a feeling of gratefulness and a deep appreciation for the country and its people. "
