Furthermore, this may even embrace the digital soundscapes of staying connected, via the soundscapes generated through FaceTime or Team Calls. How we are locked in these positions until Covid-19 diminishes for people to reunite and physically connect once again.

DreamLand by Matheos & Georgios is a sonic representation of the hypnopompic state. In this cycle of sleep the person is transitioning from sleep to wakefulness. The piece continuously suggests to inner and outer sonic experiences that portray the in-between of both states of realities. You might not be sure whether you're awake or asleep.

Changing One’s Mind by Matheos & Georgios is an attempt to sonically portray the effects of psychosis. The intent of our auditory exploration is to immerse the listener in two different physical acoustical spaces in which provokes deception and unfamiliarity. This is guided by themes of duality and space which challenges by fracturing a person’s sense of reality. With homage to Karlheinz Stockhausen’s directional sound in performance, the use of outdoor field and indoor multi-channel recordings are to evoke a sense of a surreal experience. Throughout the construction of the project, both artists continuously exposed different forms of intervention which tied to its creation. This piece bridges human consciousness and sound art in order to bring attention to societal awareness and mental health.

1953 – Through the Dust by Matheos & Georgios is a sound art participatory documentary aimed at preserving the stories from the 1953 Great Kefalonian Earthquake. In 1953, located West mainland of Greece, the island of Kefalonia(Cephalonia) was struck by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that changed the lives of all inhabitants of the island. It had severe effects on their economy, society, culture, and ultimately individual lives.

DigiTral by Matheos & Georgios is conceptualized by the transformation of the natural society to the digitalization of human life. Presently, we are at a middle point that is departing an organic living to a digitally assisted one in which both composers were capable of collaboration from across the world. There is a delicate intrusion from the immersive and digital technologies which comforts our journey into this new uncharted world. As Millennials and Netizens, we each contribute through a variety of artistic exchanges, building on top of the others compositional renderings. Matheos composed using the assistance of machine learning to inform his decisions and digitally generated sounds. Georgios composed with his intuition adding from his personal archive of field recordings from around the world. This piece presents a sonic experience with the interpretation of natural and digital sounds that are in a current state of suspension. With each passing day, our human journey is challenged on new frontiers as we slowly all become digital beings.

DigiTral - Matheos And Georgios

Matheos & Georgios is a partnership composed of two life-long friends who have multiple interests in sound design, acousmatic composition, and sonic arts. Through their studies in Electroacoustics at Concordia University (Montreal, Canada), they have each acquired a different set of interests and passions. This includes avenues of exploration into sound research, performance, media manipulation, recording, sound practices, and technology. By merging their skills  they have ventured into projects connected and concerned with history, culture, society, and art history. A common theme through their works has been perspectives on past, present, and future. Whether that is in the construction or compositions of their projects, they focus on intertwining old with new. 

As a team, they view their art as a medium to present real-life issues or topics that concern the masses and areas of human experiences. This is to form an attempt of dialogue by involving the viewer physically and emotionally within their pieces. Their collective works reflect the preservation and continuity of knowledge, language, and communication. Utilizing their friendship alongside their mixed media team provides an ability to venture into large-scale projects and investigate issues relatable to each other or as a whole. This is also seen by the use of multi-layered ideas and functions of their art.
