Lots of things can be said about the year 2020. Here we all are, stuck in our living rooms, bedroom studios and forced to wear masks to be allowed outside. With the lack of parties and festivals our  psychedelic family has been reduced  to a bunch of sit-ins. All in all it has been kind of a shitty year... with one exception! It seems to me that we have seen a surge in the amount of ep's, albums and compilations being released, and for that I am forever grateful.  The creators have been working hard on creating fresh, quality sounds and new labels and artists have been popping up all over the place. The overall quality has been very high, and VA Dark Realms compiled by Kalpitha, released on Kamakhya Records is no exception.
With a twenty entries strong tracklist it is a monster of an album. One thing that struck me when first receiving the album was the diversity of styles represented. Ranging between 153-250 BPM you will find everything from groovy dark tunes, to techy darpsy, in your face psycore, atmospheric slambient and totally experimental works, and even acid-inspired 4-to-the-floor technoesque sound from artists like Zamurah, Crone, Paranoia Sector, Yawanawa, Kinetik Flux, Necropsycho, Varázsló, K-Owl and Underworld Architects to name a few.
When listening to the album it really takes you on a journey through the dark and hidden realms of your mind. From deep meditative states to analytic and highly technical  and fast space travelling.
Kalpitha has done a terrific job in finding artists and sounds to put together for this journey. With crystal clear mastering by Crone (who also has a truly banging entry on the VA), beautiful artwork by Paranoia Sector and as always support from Kamakhya records this could be one of the best compilations in this (shit) year of our lord 2020.
