Nick Scofield continues to craft a sound of his own. Centered around a backbone of sturdy grooves, he explores realms of melodies both retro and futuristic. With a pair of appearances on our Tales of Romance series, as well as the timeless Highway 1 EP gracing TOR last year, Scofield has built a hearty foundation in the early stages of his journey. As we venture into the new year, we are thrilled to have Scofield back on board for his second full project on the imprint - the Foggy Night EP.

The project’s namesake opens the show in scintillating fashion. Drenched in percussive persistence, rhythmic rotations instantly frame the groove on Foggy Night. Eastern strings provide a lush melody, while ominous synthetics elevate energy throughout this heady cut from Scofield.

Zagroutah keeps the organic rhythms flowing, while a classic house groove nudges us towards the light. Afro-tinged influences come to the fore from the early stages, while an electro-synth hook surprises the senses. A delightful flute performance is the cherry on top of this one, which cohesively checks all the boxes; a tune for the true groovers.

Closing out this sumptuous trio is Opulence. Low-slung drums get the vibe rolling, as Nick harnesses deviant deep tones through punchy synth stabs and a tripped-out vocal chop. Look no further, this EP succinctly summarizes the Scofield sound.

In different cultures, it symbolises the destruction of all negativity, anger, greed or jealousy and stands for beauty, richness and joy. Klassified Records follow that philosophy in every step of the way. This album represents the careful selection of a specific organic, earthy, melodic and mysterious electronic music, and a real guidance into a journey of different soundscapes, contexts and experiences.

Mahfoud intensified his passion for art and music with multidimensional perspectives. RESAVOIR is a diverse collective of young Chicago artists & improvisers who perform songs written and directed by trumpeter Will Miller. Best-known for his work with the indie band Whitney — and for his brass cameos on tracks by Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Saba, Eryn Allen Kane, and more - Will is, at his core, a jazz cat who trained at the Oberlin Conservatory. All the while, the Chicago native has been slowly and privately developing the music he jokingly refers to as his “bedroom jazz” sound. RESAVOIR is the manifestation of this development, with Miller often harmonizing his trumpet through synths and samplers, giving his leads an expansive, orchestral sound which can recall Soulquarian Roy Hargrove or Jon Hassell. RESAVOIR's debut album is due in 2019, on International Anthem. Tonight, RESAVOIR will feature Miller (trumpet, MIDI keyboard), Akenya Seymour (keyboards, vocals), Irvin Pierce (tenor sax), Lane Beckstrom (bass), Peter Manheim (drums) and Jeremy Cunningham (drums).

The latest production team to emerge from Russia's vibrant underground house and disco scene St Petersburg duo Andrey & Stas, aka Radial Gaze, make their debut on Eskimo Recordings this November with 'Totem Echoes'. An eclectic mix of disorientating synths, tribal chants and industrial percussion it's a stunning release from this nascent partnership that recalls the like of Moscoman and fellow countrymen Simple Symmetry. 

Only the duo's third release 'Totem Echoes' is a powerful, heady track that draws heavily upon their background, Andrey as resident DJ at the Skotny Dvor club and Stas' background as a sound designer and both theatre and musical director, the result unsurprisingly being a dramatic piece of music that's sure to inspire some equally dramatic moves on the Dancefloor.

"We were looking for points of perfect resonance," explain the guys, somewhat cryptically. "A concentration of mighty vibrations and a burning synthetic groove. In this bay of multicolored flows, we built the special sand structures that make up this track.”

Obvious really when you think about it. 

Accompanying the original we have remixes from Lille based You Man and Amsterdam's SHMLSS. Having made a return from production this year with releases on Tronik Youth's NEIN Records You Man deliver a remix that hones in on the track's industrial elements to create a stripped back, ghostly interpretation, the perfect soundtrack to illegal parties in brutalist concrete car parks.

SHMLSS meanwhile continue their winning streak of remixes for Eskimo with another guaranteed floor filler, adopting a more maximalist approach that sees the vocals reduced to staccato blasts, drifting in and out of the mix as fierce synth stabs and cascading metallic percussion maintain the feeling of a track ready to explode at any minute.
