An ode to a 29 ys old, huge (at least six feet up to the shoulder…) Westphalian gelding i know and love quite (... :)...) well, named LKW (LastKraftWagen = Lorry)


09.11.2022: Lorry died today and now the ode also has become a requiem...
He's a legend to me, for he taught me to have no fear, RIP...


Ye’ Olde Lorry 

There they come
I already heard and smelled the engine
when they drove on the farm
They come with a bucket full of this Irish mash along
That they prepared at home, that they prepared with love
With carrots and some senior food 
That is always lifting my mood
I can feel how my teeth start to chew
With a deep relief…

I feel their unconditional love,
When she brushes my body so gently
And afterwards combs my long tail
Then she scrapes my hoove out
In former days the bridle was put on
Then i was saddled and we’d walk on a perfect riding trail
Then we  would just fly over the stubble fields
Passed shallow riverbeds in the glittering sun
I felt her taking deep breaths
Exhaling grief and sorrowness
Releasing all the locks and getting relaxed...

Now i’m already quite old
Since a couple of years we just do no rides together no more
I think it’s okay that way 
Strolling with my mates 
Over the meadows day by day
Malming grass and hay 
Sometimes we still go out for a walk through the countryside
Where the blades of grass are swinging in the wind nearby
Now and then I stop and gaze pensively at the sight 
Then she rubs her nose in my fur
And she is clapping me gently and both of us give a content sigh …

Hello. Hope you’re all relatively okay, especially now in the world. I see I am in a winter lull musically. My focus is drawn away by bitter cold weather from a recent polar vortex and also, by what is happening in the world right now. Earlier in the week, it was -22F (-30C) one night. That’s fairly cold for the end of February. With the cold, there came a fair amount of snow and strong winds. I found myself outside shoveling snow and enjoying the balmy -10 temps. As I was shoveling, I noticed 3 deer beds in the fresh snow by the aspens, a short distance from the compost pile. When I finally shoveled back to the compost pile, I saw the deer had feasted on some old garden squash I had recently composted. Apparently deer like squash. Good to know, as there is only so much squash an old man like me can eat. Last night I tossed some smaller garden carrots back there for the deer and rabbits. By the time I got back inside my beard had already frozen. Anyway, this song is my way to work through some shit about my family, and by extension the world right now. Guess I am not a happy camper at the moment. For the most part all of the lyrics are ‘true’, but they are also painted by a Zeitgeist of how I saw things go down. The song is also a vehicle of catharsis, as I work to render out the last vestiges of resentment I may still have toward all this happy horseshit. (I laughed while recording this.) I can only hope the world finds its sanity, as I have given up hope for my family ever finding theirs… Thank you for dropping by. First track of a new album where I'll try to be more eclectic, with closer approach to some genres. Experimented on this one over-editing vocal line on the left, and getting midi files out of organic guitar melodies, which I could play with virtual instruments. I hope you'll enjoy a different Ruizzoid shape.

Dedicated to Germán Coppini’s ‘Golpes Bajos’, one of my favorite groups of the Spanish ‘Nueva Ola’.
