London-based keyboardist/producer Dan Nicholls (of Y-OTIS) introduces a new album project ‘Mattering And Meaning’ to be released by We Jazz Records on August 13th. Nicholls' music uses acoustic piano as its key element, transporting the instrument into new territories that sound remarkably natural and organic, whilst displaying a strong kinship with the world of abstract electronic music. The music utilises piano loops and field recordings as its key elements, forming what might be described on the surface as a fascinating ambient jazz record – but at the same time there's so much more at play here on deeper levels. Dan's music sounds at once otherworldly and immensely inviting.

With its uncanny landscape of fine sand drifts, juniper fields and pine, the ancient Beerze forest in the North-East of the Netherlands is a site of many unusual convergences of human and other than human stories. 'Papa' continues to unravel the threads of a deep artistic collaboration and kinship between pianist and producer Dan Nicholls and the Dutch filmmaker and anthropologist Louise Boer. These fuzzily collaged images and sounds represent a common love for finding the in-between places in which ideas can find deeper roots, channeled here through a dreamlike world which holds within it the location in which Louise’s father, Henk Boer, found his final resting place.

Over the past few years, Andrew Osterhoudt has quietly curated a slew of comforting kosmische musik that gazes deep into the stars while peering just as deeply inward. Now, the Brooklyn-based composer sets their sights on more tangible artifacts and nearby nuance with 'Out Together', an earthbound fit of maniacal mindfulness mixed with calm chaos.
 
Constructed on a scaffold of juxtaposed symmetry, the two sides of 'Out Together' foil and compliment each other in delicate harmony. Live collaborations with Ka Baird and John Also Bennett (JAB) colligate with manipulated found sounds from records and digital audio files from old broadcasting sound libraries, recontextualized into moments of ambient turntablism. The search for harmony shines throughout. Take the final tones of A-side closer “Runoff” drifting downstream with bubbly textures and arpeggiated bliss, trying to reach harmony with the initial tones of B-side opener “Frequency.” The latter ultimately spotlights a fortuitous flute duet from Baird and JAB born from Osterhoudt’s own graphic score.
 
The patient pointillism and avant assurance of “Crowds” balances out the opposite side’s “Everyone Arriving, Eventually,” a tone poem of sand-like textures flowing through melodic reeds and other sonic detritus. “Undergrowth” awakens in a steam-drenched run of modulated meditation, focusing on Ka Baird’s singularly enraptured vocal exorcisms which perfectly reflect its B-side counterpart “The Breathing Green,” engaged in a din of rustic psychedelia with waves of buzzing, ember-like tones and unseen fauna.
 
As a whole, 'Out Together' presents a vibrant spectrum of feelings ranging from magnified isolation to zoomed-out, wide-angled euphoria.

From a fresh generation of producer without any blinders, this resident DJ from both Rinse France and Positive Education Festival, and audio alchemist acidobasic (fka Basic) is making his Global Warming debut with a dancefloor driven 2 tracker for stompy adventurers. 

Both immersed in a singular soundscape of bleepy synths, uncanny melodies and bass-loaded 4 to the floor kick drum, Baile & Tooping are the ideal soundtrack to both a peak time carnival street party, or a game of Mario Kart on acid. In both cases, designed to be played too loud.  

The release is visually scored by Marseille-based graphic guru Ben Hubbard, responsible for previous Global Warming artworks from Realitycheck, Jon Beige or Ouai Stéphane. He’s adding an extra layer of styles crossover, using a blend of video footage, graffiti, visual warps and collage to create a unique piece for each track.

Global Warming Records is run by Franco-British producer and talent seeker Malcolm, who imagines and shapes each project hand in hand with his artists. Global Warming just won the Ed Banger & Trax Magazine prize for the most promising electronic labels. Baile / Tooping will be the label’s 19th release.

Nervous Horizon is delighted to welcome New York-based producer and DJ Ma Sha to the roster with a high-voltage three-track EP titled "Elastik".

For her Nervous Horizon debut, the Kindergarten' honcho immerses herself in a solitary sonic journey drawing inspiration from the concept of self-isolation-induced time distortion and the interplay of the diverse rhythms intertwining in her environment. From the quick motion of people outside her Ridgewood apartment juxtaposed with the slow, fluid movements of her indoor plants, to the intense traffic on Myrtle Ave contrasting the flowing red light shadows on her studio walls, Ma Sha blends warped reality and sound exploration forming the perfect collage.

Shaping her distinct solo sound with a focus on finding a balance between her critical thinking and intuition, each track resonates with different emotional states. By aligning heavily time-stretched elements with chopping and granulation techniques, Ma Sha skillfully incorporates the altered time concept within the tracks' structure. If "KV December" mirrors unpredictable emotional fluctuations, in both "Myrtle Warp" and "Psyspi" vocal textures' shifts and layered synths co-exist with bold and sharp percussion. Accompanied by a fresh take by Ehua on one of the originals, the EP unravels around a warped perception of time while consistently maintaining the playful atmosphere that defines Ma Sha's personality and the music that truly inspires her.

Ok yes… the world is sicker than ever, but that doesn't mean we get to stop. 
 
The past months have seen long overdue eruptions of sadness and rage directed at bloated, militarized, racist police forces and iniquitous government spending around the world. The puzzle pieces are assembling and fresh eyes are examining corrupt practices that Black & brown communities have criticized for decades. It is time to defund the police and invest in communities that have been systemically attacked. 
 
For the third volume of Physically Sick, we are focusing on local efforts and raising money for Equality For Flatbush, an organization that has been fighting racist police abuse and gentrification since 2013. Equality For Flatbush mobilizes direct aid when necessary, recently ensuring Brooklyn residents have groceries and supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Techno, house, and all the sounds at the root of electronic dance music, are born from Black communities. Dance music can only be sustained by an inclusive joy for the marginalized and the dispossessed. As we rally in support of Black lives, the struggles against police violence, and inequality, it is the responsibility of every person, from DJs to dancers, not to let things slide back to business as usual.

Physically Sick 3 is a fundraising compilation from Discwoman & Allergy Season curated by Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson, Umfang, and Physical Therapy.
