I sit alone in my room, 4 walls feel like a fortress.
No boat to cross the moat and I've cut the chain on the drawbridge
'cause my castle is haunted. I've tried getting it sorted;
made efforts to alleviate but the demons ignored it.

So, I stay in my tower, quilling thoughts on a scroll
about the darkness I'm feeling and how it tortures my soul.
because my mind's been taken hostage, warped and forced to evolve

I keep my castle closed off from the rest of the town

All the while my face invests in a pessimist frown.
I'm feeling like a peasant how it's gone and wrestled me down.

But it's for the best I keep it locked away in the dungeon
and try to keep it out the way every day as I function.
Still the village can't help themselves and say their assumptions 
because they don't realise the part that they play in my destruction.

Verse 2:

At odds with my mind a lot of the time,
bottled feelings and lies, from all those times I said I was fine.
They say put on a happy face, so I went in disguise
'cause if I showed my real side, they'd question "who is this guy?"

I use deception, so as to not hinder my friends perception
of me. So happy me is the me in their recollections.
I try not burden my mates with the turbulent weight
that I carry upon my shoulders, or the hurt that I take. 

it isn't pertinent because I know this feeling isn't permanent.
So when they ask if me I'm alright, I reply 'Affirmative.' 
'It's for the best' that's what I say in my mind.
I'd expect em to say 'Marcus, why're you wasting my time?'

Of course they don't though, 'cause they can't be troubled by things they don't know
and so my mouth remains closed about emotions I don't show.
Except for on tracks; I'm on the record, confessing all.
When I press record, it turns the booth into a confessional.
