a little fishing village hides
embraced between the mountainsides

and there’s a chapel where they preach
on Sundays and quiet beach
where sometimes on a Saturday
you’ll see them give the bride away

the fishing boats at dawn come in
and spread their catch on tarpaulins
to sell to local restaurants
in shadows cast by swaying palms

above the town on unpaved streets
the kids race past in shoeless feet
to kick their scuffed up soccer balls 
against the crumbling stucco walls

and in a hammock hung between
two palms, you close your eyes and dream
in shades of drying fishing nets
to wake to Spanish omelets
