After the fiesta that was Duoscience’s 4 track Brazilian liquid funk EP Inform are straight back on with the followup in the form of a single release from Swiss fraternal maestros Konfront.Audio, real names Simon and Yves Raemy. With a name like Konfront.Audio the assumption is that these guys mainly made D&B geared towards the darker end of the spectrum and, with releases already on Citrus Recordings, Syndrome Audio, Dysfunk Music and Structured Music you’d be mostly right. Mostly.

Switching their style up here and proving that they’re equally dab hands at laying down some lush liquid vibes as they are smashing it with the darkness Inform Records are proud to present INFORM011 - Culture (ft. Flint)/Reincarnation/Born Again (with Ryck) by Konfront.Audio.

This releases opening gambit is the sublime Culture. It is really a thing of beauty, a classic liquid roller that seamlessly references the deeper side of jazz and blues backed up with 21st century production values. The whole tune is driven by Flint’s haunting vocal that floats between the gently undulating bassline reminiscent of Calibre’s recent output. There are hints at Konfront.Audio’s dark heritage here in the form of a few subtle midrange growls that come in at the end of the bar before fading back into the liquid vibes.

The B side, Reincarnation ups the dark vibes a little bit more while still retaining the beautiful muted jazzy themes set up by the A side. Here there growls are more prominent and play much more of a part pushing the tune along and accentuating the booming bassline. Working as counterpoint to the midrange bass manipulation are a few soul-esque fills, replete with 70s vox samples that work to give the tune a neo-noir feel to it, evoking images of being in a smokey jazz bar in the year 2054.

It is a sublime release that really showcases the full potential of crossover D&B and shows what can happen when producers leave genre boundaries. More top quality work from Infrom Records, who are constantly pushing the bracket and scouring the underground to bring more high quality music from less known producers from across the globe and look set to continue their rise through the D&B ranks.

The second single to be taken from Nitri’s debut LP ‘Zero Chance’ shows a softer side to his music.
‘Going To The Sun’ features the vocal talents of regular collaborator Grimm. The Canadian’s dulcet tones hang delicately over a superbly crafted framework of warm, bouncing bass, subtle synth stabs and sharp drums. Much like ‘Undeserving’ from HZN072, Nitri’s production compliments the vocals without overpowering them, giving them the time and space they deserve to add the spiritual essence of the track.
‘Lies’, featuring Level 2 & Grimm was part of Nitri’s ‘Secrets EP, and our penultimate release of 2013 and what better way to welcome in 2014 than to get the mighty Calibre in for remix duties. Words really do not do this justice, with the Irishman effortlessly stamping his beautifully unique, soulful sound over an already elegant original. Grimm’s vocals again take centre stage backed by the classic Calibre combo of delicate, rolling breaks, understated instrumentation and exquisite musicality. No-one does it quite like him…

It's sunshine time again. The time when we need a new D&B soundtrack to score our festivals, carnivals, pool parties and barbecues. And you'd struggle to find anyone better qualified to curate that soundtrack than Technique's bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith. Just a quick glance at their immense back catalogue of anthemic releases or their packed international bookings diary is enough to demonstrate that they know exactly how to bring those summertime vibes.

Things kick off in suitably monumental fashion with a cut from the head honchos themselves, “I Need Somebody”. If you were looking out from a festival stage at a sea of excited hands in the air, this tune's searing vocal hook and unrelenting waves of bass would suit that scene perfectly. And, of course, this album contains a lethal dosage of similarly colossal tracks. For example, MaxNRG enlists a quirky vocal from Marianna to boost the hype-levels on “Headshot” and recent signing Kronology delivers the driving and euphoric “Untouchable”. Plus, there are some sizeable contributions to the big-room roll call from a few names you won't have seen on Technique before, like Oder's “Closer” and T-Phonic & Deadman's “Show Me the Way”.

But summer's not all about the shades-on daytime raving, we need some choice sunset material too for when things get a little darker. Document One and Spectrem exemplify this beautifully with the laid-back and jazzy “Falling” and the Kyphosis-laced “Fade” respectively. Helsinki's liquid maestros LAOS pass through to drop “City Lights” and “Belong”, and Tantrum Desire treats us to the effervescent “Sea Breeze”. For when things get darker still, there are tracks like the technoid, percussive world-unto-itself of Salaryman & Dark Machine's “Night Shift”. Guys like Conspire and Brian Brainstorm bring some full-on jungle, and the whole compilation is peppered with alternative sounds like Digital's dub workout “Groove Together”.

The thirty-one tracks here represent a cross-section of the mighty, multi-stranded, multi-form D&B scene and what it can do for summer 2015. There are names you'll know and names you might not know yet. There are huge mainstream anthems and shadow-bound subtleties. There are tunes for midday and tunes for four in the morning. And for four in the afternoon the next day. Ultimately, this isn't the sound of the summer, this is all the many different sounds of the summer put together on one album. So, the soundtrack's sorted, time to go out and have a summertime that's worthy of it!
