In this installment of Sound Advice, we’re joined by Bicep, the Belfast-born, London-based duo whose deft blend of house, trance and breaks have made them some of the UK’s most acclaimed live electronic performers. After two albums on the Ninja Tune label — 2017’s self-titled and 2021’s ‘Isles’ — and years of touring, they’re now back in their studio, working on their club-focused ‘CHROMA’ series and forthcoming album. We caught up with Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson from their studio to discuss their genre-agnostic influences, their musical evolution as Bicep, the creative challenges of having a digital and analog studio, and how they’ve used SoundCloud to grow as artists.

Magical Beliefs

The idea behind this mix was to represent the sun and it’s role in daytime festivals. I wanted it to have an inviting sunrise feel, but also with the rolling percussive feel that I love adding to my sets. From tracks like Bawrut's Tano that has the lighter percussive acid feel, to the Preacher-esque - Testify, I hope this would be the perfect soundtrack to Summer's rising Sun.
