I'm Only Sleeping

kind of improv, made this last night with musical typing + my computer mic on GB to experiment

whats the fish doing today

close your eyes, then

every sunday as i step into the holy house of god 
i find a flickering fire deep inside my belly as the choir
sings i know my fate and how i urge the coming date 
oh kingdom come

oh may the children play and may no harm come to them and
may the bears and foxes sneak right past my chicken pen
and as i kay my head to sleep oh lord my soul is yours to keep
in your light above 

though i sometimes fear the beast will find me
drain me of my purity i recall conversations i’ve had with angels and ms mary
and i know that your glow will save me
i shall not retreat or taste defeat i shall
not succumb i know the fruit my body comes from



when it finally comes my turn to meet the end you’ll see
in the eyes of god i’m surely a good lady as i
do not swear and hide my hair from men who may try to tempt me
all the scripture i’ve read down by the old willow tree

Walking the streets on a Sunday 'cause it's better than lying in bed
Should I make eye contact with that person or just stare straight ahead
And to my dismay, there stands a siren on the corner of the edge of the path
But I walk on 
And I laugh
I guess it's just that time of year
I will not live in fear

Now I'm falling asleep, sick and somber in the chasm of a daylight's dream
I assure you I am better adjusted than this, less indefatigable than I seem
And when I awake, I'll surely say my final rough and tumble prayer to you
Then I'll scoff
I'm well off
And though the anomie persists
Some may doubt it exists

Evening plans turn on a dime and this poet is past his prime
I think I'll look at the sunset
See if I can get inspired
