I couldn't imagine a better debut in my home country - Italy. When you end up playing in front of +1000 people in a stunning Medieval Fort overlooking the harbour of Livorno, there are not many words that can be used without being rhetorical.

Like many other DJs, I have missed a lot the stage and playing at a 'real event' during this pandemic. Fortunately the new Green Pass system allowed us to enjoy this unforgettable night at La Fortezza Vecchia.

Many Thanks to @sleepsound_sleepsound chaps for the excellent organization and for the kind invite, I'm sure we will cross paths again.

Frenchman Leohnart makes a highly anticipated return in what is his debut on XYZ’s SOL imprint. The Montreal-based artist brings his signature introspective touch to the label with a sumptuous four-tracker. ‘One Day’ leads the EP, offering up a deep journey, which fuses tribal rhythms, delicate atmospheric touches and an emotive, entrancing synth-line.

‘Evolution’ expands on the ethereal feel with beautifully textured synth work and lush chords, building slowly with soothing atmosphere and a similarly captivating ambiance.

‘Rise & Fall’ takes a fresh turn, contrasting hope and eery tension in a beautiful arpeggiated melody that evolves throughout the track, offering up a vibrant trip to new lands.

Closing out the EP on an optimistic note is ‘Around Me’, which once again showcases sublime rhythms and intricate melodies in an uplifting finish to the release.

Inner Symphony returns with another mind blowing EP, titled “Ojas”. The EP includes the original track by Soul Button as well as five exquisite remixes from master producers BLANCAh, Clawz SG, Subconscious, James Marley and a debut Inner Symphony appearance by Simon Doty. 

In the profoundly enticing original mix “Ojas”, Soul Button artfully pushes the emotions up towards climactic heights. Here, clear synths run light and deep, balancing the soul and opening pathways to complete serenity.

First to reinvent the original is Clawz SG. Adding playfulness and dynamics to the rhythm, a progressive reinvention with his signature mastery is undeniable. Meanwhile, BLANCAh keeps her take on “Ojas” subtle and mysterious with a driving pace, enhanced melodies and illusive soft beats. Fourth in place is Toronto based producer, Simon Doty, making his debut appearance on Inner Symphony with a full on reconstruction of the original track. Minimalistic with progressive low synths, this piece is intriguingly groovy. Subconscious puts an atmospheric twist on “Ojas”, delivering a sensual, tenderly beckoning masterpiece to indulge in. Last but not the least, it’s James Marley. This remix is a celebration of youthful energy bursting with vibrant colors.

“Take Two” is a new series of EP’s under SaturdaySelects that focuses on the creativity and rendition of artists we work on remixes and edits of some of their favourite tracks. This gives a new outlook at an existing track adding flavours and sounds that give the track a new lease of life. The project also pairs up a designer with the artist of the project to create a collaborative effort in giving their analysis of the tracks vibe and translates it into the cover design of the EP, hence creating an audio-visual synergy and project.

Our next premiere comes to you from rhythm section aficionado Contours. After the much acclaimed Loose Wood EP back in 2016, North West is the Manchester Producer’s second release for Shall Not Fade. North West is brimming with all the delicacies we have come to expect from a Contours EP:  jazzy rhodes chords, tasty sax licks, and incredibly intricate polyrhythmic drum patterns.

Our choice cut from the EP is the title track, North West. The track opens with an airy repeating trumpet line that slowly rises much like the morning fog, as shimmering bells begin to sway around in the mix like a brisk gust on wind chimes. This eventually gives way to an entrancing conga pattern that pitters and patters like rain drops on a roof. Eventually a 2-step kick comes in and adds even further bounce to the track. On North West, Contours showcases his unique ability to fuse jazz and afro-beat influences into a pulsing thought provoking journey through a misty and grayscale terrain.
