Closing set @Linked Open Air ft Juliet Fox

I had the pleasure of playing at the first birthday of Ukiyo, a Johannesburg-based brand. I played a 2-hour technical set which was lots of fun, I experimented with ethereal, hypnotic, and cerebral sounds.

Ukiyo 1st Birthday @ And Club

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by the entrancing rhythms and deep textures of hypnotic techno. There’s something about the way the sound unfolds—layer by layer—that pulls you into a meditative state, and I’ve always wanted to try my hand at crafting a set that embodies that vibe. For this mix, I decided to step into that realm and explore the hypnotic side of techno, and I can honestly say it was one of the most rewarding experiences behind the decks.

This set is a blend of the sounds that have inspired me, fused with my own style, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Playing it live was an incredible feeling—I was fully in the moment and absolutely loved every second of it.

A huge shoutout to the LINKED Crew for having me back once again. You always create such an electric atmosphere and make it feel like home. Playing for you is a privilege, and I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Matt Halls is a techno DJ and producer from Cape Town, South Africa, crafting deep, hypnotic soundscapes that blur the lines between analog grit and digital precision. His musical roots trace back to his early days as a drummer in a metal band, eventually evolving into a love for electronic music that balances raw energy with emotional depth.

Since launching his DJ project in 2017, Matt has shared stages with global heavyweights like Amelie Lens, Ben Sims, Sama’, Juliet Fox, and HVOB, alongside South African icons such as Killer Robot, Bruno Morphet, and Dogstarr. A career highlight includes headlining the legendary Rocking the Daisies festival in 2018.

Driven by a passion for immersive, floor-shifting experiences, Matt’s sets are a journey—dark, textured, and always alive.
