Optimo Trax 011 is all about the drums.

This Illumination track (an Anglo-Norse pairing of Nicholas Stilltoe and Per ‘Mental Overdrive’ Martinsen) from 1998 has been a long time favourite of Twitch's that can instantly change the atmosphere in a club, sounds like very little else and is eminently mixable / great fun to mix with. It was only when the master arrived that the realisation came that for all these years he had been playing it at the wrong speed. It is meant to be slow but Twitch had always played it at 45 instead of 33. The vinyl version will be pressed so it can be played at either speed while the digital will be the sped up to the 45 version. It starts off soft and dubbed out until the almost overwhelming bass tones appear only to make way for apocalyptic drum cascades that on a good sound system sound like the end of the world. 


Mr. Marvin's "I Want You" came out on R&S offshoot Global Cuts in 1993. Made by Italian, Marvin Sasha who under the name Sasha made a great series of timeless EPs around the same time, this is a hypnotic tribal gem with seemingly random, panning vocal interjections. Great in the mix but much more than a mere mixing tool.

Lastly is Fuel's "Rigid" which came out on the UK label SCR in 1995 at the time when Chicago's Relief Records were taking over the more discerning djs' record boxes. This sounds like it shares some DNA with one of the many crazy tracks or remixes Green Velvet was making at this time; Industrial strength, stroboscopic snare tattoos that will have you reaching out for the smoke machine's "on" button every time.

All three have been tried and tested countless times since they were originally released and come with an Optimo Trax guarantee that if played in the right way, at the right point in the night they will not fail to work on the dancefloor.

Sophisticated minimalism was always a core feat of ALEX UNDER's portfolio, with the Spanish producer also serving as the founder and label manager for much-acclaimed techno label CMYK Musik. After releases on iconic imprints such as Trapez, Soma or Plus 8, the Madrilenian - one of the most sought-after electronic artists in Spain - now presents OLAS DE QUILA QUINA, his very first outing for Kompakt. Three slick, enticing cuts show him comitted to rolling basslines, rising synths and snappy percussion, all embedded in the futuristic sound design Alex has been honing over the course of his career. Unfolding to the backdrop of brooding metallic drones, the title track only needs a handful of carefully processed sounds to tell a highly evocative story - a focussed, geometrical jam that nonetheless allows for freewheeling outbursts of creativity. The same can be said for the punching, asymmetrical acid of EL REFLEJO DEL LACAR and the full-bodied bass bounce of LOLOG, as both cuts juxtapose sharp-edged shards of electronic texture with chewy, melodic synths. Tension-filled and catchy, it's a masterful update on ALEX UNDER's unique approach to techno, bold and subtle at the same time.

Alex Under - Lolog

The title of Max Cooper’s “Stochastisch Serie” EP, refers to his use of stochastic methods, also known as non-deterministic, or random methods of sound generation. Stochastic elements referring here mainly to real sounds including vocal experiments and sampled sounds which create a complexity and richness which has been a trademark of many well known Traum releases in the past.

The London based artist Max Cooper sees his new 12" as a construction of different moods going beyond club music, as witnessed in the past through tracks such as “i” and “End of Reason”. It is no surprise that “Dischordance” is another one of these timeless pearls alongside these mentioned tracks that have created a fan base worldwide for him. The friction Max generates is created by two sides colliding, the synthesised drums and melodies and the random experiments with voice. His dance floor rockers “Stochastisch Serie” and “Mnemonic” work in a much more functional way but do include bits of this randomness and therefore are part of the superstructure “Stochastisch Serie”.

The remix of UK producer Leeks is very hip in style and sound and will please a lot of younger DJs who love the cool swing and groovyness with music and will find the functionlism here going very strong. Microtrauma from Germany turn the track upside down in their remix, taking out the elements that create the tension and incorporating them in their subtle beat, creating a steady flow of deep music
