I first learned about it when the show’s host, Shawn Broom, made a post on the r/dubai subreddit on Reddit looking for guests to interview. I reached out by email, and we scheduled a recording date for December 31, 2019 (when I would be in Los Angeles). Things went so well we continued the interview for a short while longer on New Year’s Day 2020. 

In total the interview runs for two hours and 14 minutes during which time we discuss growing up in California, my parents’ divorce, starting a chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and the lifelong connections I made there, becoming a father and various issues related to that, my divorce, financial and medical challenges, moving to Dubai to teach at a university full time, meeting my fiancée, and much more.

After my main interview with Shawn, we recorded a separate segment in which I shared “My Best Story.” I discussed a series of randomly interconnected encounters with Star Trek actors starting in the fall of 1992 when I was a freshman at UC Santa Barbara. I also spent 18 hours as an extra on the set of “Star Trek Beyond” in the United Arab Emirates when I was living there and teaching marketing at a university in Dubai. 

The list of Star Trek actors I have met – or at the very least crossed paths with – includes the following: Sir Patrick Stewart OBE (Captain Jean-Luc Picard/The Next Generation), Jonathan Frakes (William T. Riker/The Next Generation), Robert Picardo (Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH)/Star Trek: Voyager), Denise Crosby (Natasha "Tasha" Yar/The Next Generation), Simon Pegg (Montgomery "Scotty" Scott/Star Trek Beyond), Zachary Quinto (Commander Spock/Star Trek Beyond).

Story of U Podcast: My Best Story

The podcast reviews best practices and innovations in sustainable Product Life Cycle Management (PLCM). It highlights eco-design, life cycle assessment, and the use of renewable and recycled materials. Sustainable manufacturing practices, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and renewable energy integration, are emphasized. Circular economy models extend product life through repair, reuse, and recycling. The article also stresses supply chain transparency, ethical sourcing, and stakeholder engagement as critical factors for overcoming challenges and ensuring long-term success
