This version is a mish-mash of various verses written over the 500 years it has existed with updated language slightly repurposed and updated music composed with deference to the age of the work.

History:  Greensleeves dates back to the 1500s in England.  There's a tale stating that this song was commissioned by King Henry VIII for Ann Boleyn, but the experts say that's a load of bunk.  (It does sound too good to be true).  This song did appear around the Tudor period in England.  The author is unknown.  As for Henry VIII, I've read that he actually had a fairly famous contralto singing voice.  Who knows?  That would be cool.  It was also reworked in the 1600s and 1900s to be about Christmas.  So, it has a long, rich history.

For my version, I took the original love ballad approach and reworked it with more modern language -- piecing together verses from different eras. For example, the final verse was originally:  "Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu/ I pray that God will prosper thee/ for I am still thy lover true/ Come once again and love me."  Yeah, yuck and bullshit.  I also acknowledged the Christmas tradition the title has with the musical rant in the middle and the guitar solo.
