I just need to try and explain to the vast majority that the ways of this world is all in vain / living in this system and it’s structure that fluctuates and ruptures and tries to pass off as humane / it ain’t arcane / the roots of this country was founded on pain / colonize the new world and independent domain / but now we welcome the machine as the elite plot out their scheme and calling people like me the weakest link on the chain /I can spot what’s underlying but to them it’s deviant / defecting from the morals they chose for me to fit / shit, they’re pouring crazy chips up into battleships and preaching education when a fourth of the masses is illiterate / now don’t you think that’s in the least bit hypocritical / I try to be an optimist but all this keeps me cynical yo / if history truly is something repetitional / the power’s bound to fall cuz Sam’s already at his pinnacle / it’s pitiful trying to shape our mind state / playing games at high stakes keeps me irate / cuz there’s snakes in this garden and they’re watching you / thus a free country still costs a few / what do we do /

Foolish

Another track with "mi familia Venezuelana".  Produced and recorded by my good friend Marcel Fernandez in Macaraquay, Caracas, Venezuela.  I recorded the basic acoustic version at probably 4 in the freakin' morning sometime in Oct, 2009.  Then Marcel surprised me with this regalo last week.  The other players on this track are Daniel Vargas-Drums, and Baden Goyo-Piano.  check out their venezuelan crew, waipea records.   much love enjoy!

My lonesome Only Friend (RX Caracas Version)

This tune is a tribute to my mother ocean, the pacific.  It's namesake is derived from my favorite surf spot in the world.  I am constantly drawing parallels to surfing and music, they both consist of a foreign energy that is drawn and channeled and manipulated in such a way to convey uniqueness.  The weather has been extraordinarily beautiful in southern california lately and I have been fortunate to have been able to surf almost everyday this week.  Thus it seems only fitting that this song be the ambassador for this week's post.  
This tune is a jam that was recorded after a particularly fun winter surf sesh.  It features Chris Tsagakis on drums, Kelsey Gonzalez on guitar, me on bass and Lauren Coleman singing and playing percussion.  It's just one of those afternoons in the garage that we happened to have mics up and someone hit record.  Enjoy!

Sunset Raybay

Here's a tune Larzopan and I recorded back in the diz-nay.  I learned chords on uke just to play this with her.  I've never seen "the Jerk" though I have heard countless times that Steve Martin rocks this song in said flick.  Right on Steve, you shreds at banjo.  Maybe next week's track will have banjo in it.... hmm.   Anyhoo this song makes me happy and sad all at once, meancholy if you will, and that is great because music should make you feel.  It is one of the more beautiful intricacies of the human condition, in my humble opinion.  Enjoy!

Hello all, 
I'm back on the 'cloud.  I've been travelling a whole lot, 2 months in Central America, a west coast tour, east coast tour, a full US tour and a couple shows in Tokyo.  Phew!  I love every second of it tho.  To celebrate this season of giving I am dialing up one of my favorite Jimi Hendrix songs ever.  I hope you enjoy!

Castles Made of Sand

"James Connolly" is an old Irish folk song about a common man who out of desperation and circumstance became a martyr in the fight against british imperialist force.  Lisa Papineau taught me this song while we were putting the finishing touches on the Me and LP EP "Chez Raymond" at her old house in east L.A.  We'd record in blocks of a few days at a time where we'd take breaks and watch zombie movies and cook.  It was a really great time in my life, one that I will always hold dear.  I want to dedicate this song to someone who was a form of great inspiration for many of the songs Lisa and I created together, and who was the only other being who was present for every recording we made.  Rest in peace Francesco Snowcone.  If there is one disputed place I know to exist,
it's doggy heaven.
