Mist schimmen (translates as misty shades or missed figures) is a nostalgic musing about ambitions from my past. It takes inspiration from musical collaborations between 1999 and 2004. It's a bit playful, excited and optimistic, a catharsis for the here and now, brought back from a time of youthful growth and the new found wonder of making music together. 

Having lived in the UK for almost ten years now, I look back at the period in The Hague as a transition from nature to city and my music taking inspiration from both. This is most explicit in the album cover for koude handen (https://matthewflorianz.bandcamp.com/...) that features an image from nature and the city, both reflecting the clouds above. 

Mist schimmen is inspired by a feeling of youth, nighttime explorations and the concrete rhythm of a city. The images that El Drijver shot for this video perfectly capture the city of The Hague, as it rests in my mind: A busy city on the edge of something. Nature lies beyond (or should I say behind) the dunes. The harbour of Rotterdam, on the horizon, is an industrial landscape to the south while to the North there is Meijendel: Forests, dunes and wind swept landscapes. Every compass direction is a different landscape: City, industrial, sea and nature. 

In the video, the cloudscape time lapse show how The Hague was constantly changing behind those dunes with cranes dotting the horizon. The clouds pass by as the sun sets behind the dunes, exactly in the direction where I'd later move too in the Uk. A fascinating yet complete coincidence. 

Richting zuid is also a feeling of excitement when exploring a new place and aimlessly driving around: A trip from the outskirts of The Hague through orange coloured skies, projected onto clouds from the greenhouses around Hoek van Holland and the many lights dotted around the industrial harbours of Rotterdam. 

A teenage love for the music of Vangelis and Jarre comes through too. 

I hope that you will like this slightly more energetic direction from my previous release of Mass Object.

PhoenixHD is an addictive procedural shooter that will adapt the challenge depending on how well the game is played. Tonal components of sound effects are harmonically sympathetic to the music and session can last long. During a mid-release updates Waves replaces the dreamy feel of old track Ashes to Dust with upbeat heroism. 

The new music better fits the "endless waves of enemies" ethos with rising chords, strings and choir loosely layered over a driving beat. The beat is driving and unchanging, like the march against the odds of the little ship.

The premise is simple: In charge of defending a small planetoid, an alien invasion force must be destroyed before reaching the home-base.

The innovation of Star Defense is found in spherical environments which need constant rotation to expose the battlefield.

Star Defense's user interface, controls and gameplay where such a perfect showcase for the iOs platform, that Apple requested publisher ngmoco:) to present it during Apple's WWDC 2009 keynote. Star Defense quickly broke into the top ten of the App Store, scored great review marks and won several awards. IGN rewarded it a 9.0 and later announced it the best iPhone strategy game of 2009.
