I enjoy the therapeutic nature of creating music...
the release I get from venting my thoughts and being able to build a connection with people who may have shared the same experiences. It makes life feel less lonely.

My artist name is MACKAIO. It comes from bridging my first and last names together along with my Samoan heritage.

My first name is "Matthew", which is "Mataio" in Samoan.  In Samoan slang, the "t" is often pronounced as a "k". So ..."makaio" ...and since my last name is Mackintosh, I threw in the "c" to rep the family. *MACKAIO*

I grew up in Kalihi, Hawaii, where I fell in love with Jawaiian Reggae and then I spent the next half of my upbringing in Augusta, Georgia, where I was introduced to Rap and Hip Hop.
I believe my sound is influenced by both genres.

Many people have compared my sound to the artist, "Russ."
I was once told that I sounded "like what Russ would sound like if he grew up in Hawaii." Take that as you will.
