The label Stax was a major factor in the creation of the Southern soul and Memphis soul music styles, also releasing gospel, funk, jazz, and blues recordings from 1957. 
The label's house band was the legendary Booker T. & the M.G.'s. 
Other hits from Otis Reading, the mar-kays, the bar-kays, sam & dave, Eddie kirk, Eddie floyd & the Astors to name a few.
