Matthew Reid started rapping at the age of 15. At that age he was influenced by the lyrical dexterity of artists such as Notorious BIG and Common, and was inspired to rap after watching Lupe Fiasco's "Kick, Push" video on tv. Feeling a connection with the style and image that was being presented, Reid soon started crafting his own rhymes, and participating in freestyle sessions at his high school.

After numerous years of learning and studying the "rap" technique and genre, Reid decided to release his official mixtape in December of 2012, "Matthew Reid's Teenage Pregnancy". In October 2013, Reid released his acclaimed album, "Matthew Reid's Dysfunctional Aduation". It received a 3.6 rating from Theequalground.com and was described as "a style of music that harkens back to the days of deeply smooth hip-hop beats and meaningful, entertaining lyrics".

Recently, Reid has released his latest project, "Matthew Reid's Distorted Delusion" and is touring promoting the material. He is currently working on a EP that he intends to release at the end of next year.

Matthew Reid's influences are Common, Biggie, Eminem and Kurt Cobain. He views his music as a mixture between Alternative Hip- Hop and Houston Rap with Dream Pop and Trip- Hop influences leaking in his compositions. You can hear the vocabulary and unorthodox flow of a young Eminem in Reid, while other traits from other artist exist. "Dysfunctional Adulation" has been described as a "depressing yet inspiring record".
