A mini-mix I put together a while back for myself, and now using as a step beyond my crippling perfectionism and paralysing self-doubt; both of which have hindered me in sharing anything I have mixed, due to the fear of it being not perfect enough. Episode 9: A Singularity

’Sound judgment, with discernment, is the best of seers.’ - Euripides

A new mix blended with organic and progressive sounds; starting with lush, organic house from Nicholas Viana and Anton Ishutin, two of my favourite producers at the moment. GMJ & Matter tease us with the more progressive layers before the Cielo (US) remix of ‘Rajilla’ by Serious Dancers takes us for a quick segue via a bouncy, organic melody. The percussive intensity then grows as the mix moves towards its conclusion, with the late-night sounds from Yonsh, and remixes from Callecat and Weird Sounding Dude. 

Hope you enjoy this musical journey as much as I did putting it together!

Episode 11: A New Discernment

This is a mix that I had originally made back in Summer '22. Starting with the subtle melodies from OHMZ in the first two songs, which mesh into each other and then passes the melodic baton over to ‘Tomorrow Will Be Better’ by Zankee Gulati. This song also brings in a low rolling bass that gives the mix a slight push forward. The mix moves along via the melodic weavings of ‘Such It Goes’ from Deeparture (NL) and then begins to open up to some vocal-infused sounds layered within, throughout the middle order and into the tail end of the mix. All leading up to the infectious electro-vibes of the final track, ‘After Break’ by X Brazas.

Episode 12: Projecting Astral

Renewal. Representing renewed passion, renewed focus... renewed self. 

This mix was one of the first I created, at the end of 2021, when I got back into mixing music. It reflects those stages of renewal within myself. It also reflects a renewal in my taste of music… as it begins with a progressive house vibe coming from the likes of Armen Miran and Nicolas Rada, then sliding into a reflection of my newer choice of genre: organic house. This is represented by the sounds from Mass Digital and Leon Lobato, adding deep bass, lush melody and layers of vocals; and Ootkeen with the extra melodic layers that reflect the sound I now gravitate towards. And broken beats by Chris Cargo to end with - just for good measure. The progressive side has never left me... however organic house has taken up residency within my mixes. Another older mix, that now deserves its own renewal.

Episode 13: Renewal

Shifting from progressive grooves, to deep, sub-bass currents laced with melodic overtones, this mix is a movement of house that harks back to the sounds that attracted me to the music; yet brings with it the modern styles, deeper bass and intricate melody play found in the current music: the melodic reflection of 'Night Broke' by Hraach with that of Lost Desert's 'In the Deepest Ocean', to the full progressive driven familiarity of Nick Warren & Nicolas Rada's remix of 'Borealis', it pushes us further into the depths of darker, pulsating progressive beats and layered melodies… which all culminate into the outer space groove of Mattias Herrera's 'We Trust'.

A more vocal-infused mix than previous mixes I've done... beginning with Elisha Moghetti in Riccardo Leardini's 'Ocean', picked up by 'Dojo' by Stan Tone and carried on by Erdi Irmak's remix of 'Delusions' and the summer dusk sounds of 'Two Sisters' by Lenz (DE); with Ranta's remix of Radical Fantasy as an island in the middle of an expanding undulating sea, all converging with the darker grooves of Big Al, Lisandro (AR) and DeepFade (AR), to end in the melodic sound of early dawn sunrise by Florian Gaspirini and the Callecat remix of Namatjira's 'Solenodon'.

Episode 15: Convergence

This is a mix full of bass-driven beats, with etherial melodies interwoven throughout, to create a sense of transcending movement from the sub-levels into the upper reaches of consciousness. Starting with the blissful sounds of Madraas’s remix of ‘Ramu’ by Wassu, into the archipelago sounds of Nikola Jovanovic - the journey then progresses and intensifies with ‘Hyphae’, ‘Golden Age’, and ‘Interjection’ on through into ‘Birds of Paradise’. Nōpi’s ‘Gray Time’ takes us back into the depths of sub-bass driven beats, melding with an uplifting melody that then merges into ‘Treasure Trail’ and finally ending with the enigmatic chants of ‘Kostroma’ by Stan Tone & Ivan Kupala. A journey to remind us that we are just fleeting whispers dancing upon a temporal reality.

We all make our own paths through the journey called life. And this is a sort of soundtrack that accompanies an inward traveller; whom seek to find the universe within themselves. Embarking with the melancholic sounds from Beije’s remix of ‘There’, to the percussive intricacies of ‘Going Back Again’, then melding into the first deep rolling bassline of Noble Spirits’s remix of ‘Sonara’, which points us further down a path of evocative vocals, staccato melodies and haunting strings to culminate into the uplifting sounds of ‘Life It Is (revision)’, and arrive at our end with the catchy ‘Like It or Not’ remix by Mass Digital. Come join me on this journey…

This is a mix that starts out at a higher pace, and continues throughout the journey; taking us from dark progressive into melodic house vibes. With a more club-like feel to it, it jumps from the groove-laced opening of ‘Tasks’ and ‘Fog of Illusion’, into the minimal tech vocal revelations of ‘Society’, then the glitchy melody of the Lucas Zárate remix of ‘Make You Mine’. The dark sounds continue with ‘Opulent (Anton Borin remix)’ and then we start to come back up to the surface via ‘Hidden Paradise (NICØ (AR) remix)’, ‘Shining’ and Weird Sounding Dude’s remix of ‘Into the Woods’. All this builds up and culminates with Callecat’s ‘Axolotl’, remixed by Sebastien Selleras, and then into the finale of ‘Ballad of a Distant Star.’

Episode 20 is a mix that digs into the crate (so to speak), utilising songs spanning across the past 9 years; taking partial mixes of old and re-imagining them for one continuous journey. To stitch a peregrination together, that meanders from melody to melody, bass line to bass line… interwoven with pads, strings, vocals, and intermissions of rumination; that continuously builds upon the melodic, progressive elements... leading to a luminous conclusion.

In my opinion, music should always leave us moved in some way: emotionally, spiritually and/or physically... thus I have attempted to compile mixes to do just that. Not dancefloor focused per se... rather a sense of taking journeys, narrated by the music.
