Matt is an independently thinking self-employed composer/producer based in York, with at least 20 years of varied musical experience including performance, 
composition, musical directing and music production. He also teaches music in primary schools and has an interest in Japanese language, speaking to a competent level.

Matt has a particular passion for creating music to compliment narrative media and enjoys moulding his work towards a single creative vision. His process and project management is consistent but his output stylistically is not. Matt approaches every project with a blank slate and tries to draw on any genre and its instrumentation to create something unique. Matt starts with a strong thematic foundation inspired by a visual stimulus and grows a piece from there.

The knowledge he gained from his degree studies and earlier musical training, including time spent as Head Chorister at York Minster, informs his arrangement skills, while his time as an assistant producer, subsequent 
artist development work and performing in bands has allowed him to apply those skills to more modern settings. Matt finds assisting other artists and composers highly rewarding both creatively and in terms of his own development.

Matt is frequently engaged in the local short filmmaking scene and was lucky to be part of a multiple award winning production in 2013 called ‘Persistence’. He has also composed for promotional videos, mini-series, competitions, library albums and has scored for soloists and local ensembles.

Matt has a fully capable production facility in his home and enjoys combining real recorded instruments with synthetic and sampled sounds to suite a production’s needs. His favourite composers include Jerry Goldsmith and Nobuo Uematsu from the Final Fantasy game series.
