This one has it all - action, drama, romance, heroism and a big, Hollywood finale.
The piece starts in the middle of an intense action sequence with sforzando brass, augmented/dominant Horn melodies and staccato strings playing on a subdivided triplet ostinato.  Harmonic modulations ascend, increasing the drama.  The aforementioned string-ostinato (repetitive figure) permeates the entire piece and acts as a glue throughout the movement.  The figure becomes fully realized at 1:07 when the entire orchestra, choirs and percussion canon it in unison.
As the strings continue the motif, rotating trumpets and horns play fragments of a heroic melody that crescendos to 1:32 where a transposition of the melody and subsequent harmony are revealed.  
Finally, the piece goes through several more key changes and transitions before tremolo strings and brass fanfares conclude.
And if you understood all of that, congratulations!  You have a useless music degree like myself!

Summer Blockbuster

This original melody, much like Beethoven's Eroica Symphony No. 3 (completely unrelated musical material),  goes on a journey before we hear it in it's entirety; before it reveals it's true form and zenith.  

Orchestrations include spiccato violins and celli in ostinato - a quintessential technique for any modern movie composer; soaring horns in 3rd intervals, tremelo and harmonic strings for color; brassy, almost strident trumpets; intimate piano figures paired with children's chorus; a healthy low brass section; and Godzilla Drums/Timpani to give the percussion some real "umph!"

Elegiac piano solos, sonorous choirs, warm harmonies, and soaring  strings coalesce to create what my friends describe as "pretty cool."

I layered electronic elements and rock drum kits over brass, strings, a massive percussion pit, and woodwinds to create an "Star Wars meets Men in Black" texture - Enjoy!

The Encounter - Original Film Score

I decided to experiment with some non-orchestral, electronic sounds to create a "movie-trailer music" type piece.  A simple, 8-note motif is introduced first by piano, and later horns/choir/electronic lead with trumpet/string accompaniment.  An arpeggio-like ostinato is passed to and from electronic instruments and staccato violas throughout the entirety of the piece, and a pulsing, electronic bass can be heard throughout.  

Event Horizon

This was a mockup/demo that I created for a video game developer that wanted a combination of sounds ranging from Halo (Martin O'Donnell) to some more classic, 90's-sounding melodies (Stargate, David Arnold; Dragonheart, Randy Edelman) for the game's Main Menu Launch Screen.

If you're a gamer, you'll notice some not-so-subtle references to Halo near the end of the track in the choral work, and some (hopefully) original melodies carried by Horn/Brass throughout the piece - enjoy!

SciFi Video Game - Main Menu

I created warm harmonies by using alternating 4th/5th chords (Lydian modality) and creating a playful melody that kind of curves and twists around its center before resolving. The melody is primarily carried by English Horn (woodwind) and Strings, but lends itself to some light canon work and then a vibrant counter-melody in the brass. Enjoy!

The Kuchling Humanitarian Award, presented each year since 1983 at the Black Tie Dinner, is given to individuals who have made extraordinary gifts of their time and talents. The Black Tie Dinner is the largest fundraiser of its kind in the Nation.

It was really important to get the tone right in this video as it was posthumously given to a Volunteer of the non-profit Black Tie Dinner who had been involved since the Dinner's inception.

I wanted to create a palette that was both bright and bittersweet to mirror the emotions of the Volunteer's surviving friends and family that were interviewed for this video segment. I hope you enjoy.

I created a fun piece that sounds like a Big Hollywood Super Hero movie, but also fuses together electronic sounds and harmonies from the current video game genre. 

Orchestration: Dynamic synths accompany a robust low brass section to create ever-ascending, block triads while frenetic strings paired with electronic guitars bounce along above in ostinato. Rounding out the core is a stout french horn section, solo trumpet, piano, and some sparse woodwinds for accent and color.

I want help naming this piece. Words that inspired me while writing it were: powerful, structural, indestructible, zenith, mega, apex, prime . . .

Epic Opener

This is a track that I composed for the CGI Animated Film, The Encounter, by the brilliant director/producer/animator Thomas DeCarlo. I have "beefed it up" into a concert suite for the purpose of displaying the primary melodies in this film, and to highlight the inspiration that this film bestowed upon me. It's hard to create without being truly inspired - this film was a gift.

Melodies always go "up" before they come back down.  It's in a composers' aesthetic to go "up;" whether it's human nature to do so or if it's just in our "ear" because everyone else is doing it is still a mystery.  Even school children learning aural skills are more pitch-accurate when ascending.  I went the other way.  It's a simple idea that turned a 4-note descending melody into a cascading wall of sound after I added countermelodies.  I hope you enjoy my first attempt at Neoclassical textures with a Modern twist.

Allegro Symphonique

By far my most simple and, well, short piece I've composed to date.  Using more modern orchestration (pizzicato strings, bells, boys chorus) created a piece that I would market more towards Cancer Treatment Centers of America or perhaps even Apple.

Hope Soars

Composer for all things media.  Specializes in big, lush, orchestral scores, but comfortable with the very intimate, minimalistic aspects of this craft as well.
