It would seem that spring is finally upon us here in the UK (sort of). To celebrate, here is another installment of my mix series Everything Will Be Ok In The End. This time, I've included music that has helped me get through the seemingly endless winter, ranging from ethereal loveliness from @hammockmusic, jazz from Kokoroko and even some warped grime by @trimethus. 

This mix also serves as a belated tribute to the Icelandic film composer Jóhann Jóhannsson who sadly passed away back in February. Jóhann composed the music for some of my favourite films such as 'Arrival' and 'Sicario' and will be sorely missed.

Everything Will Be Ok In The End - 005

This month's edition of Everything Will Be Ok In The End is dedicated to Frightened Rabbit lead singer Scott Hutchison, who passed away earlier this week.

I don't tend to get too emotional when musicians or celebrities pass away, probably as I usually have no personal connection to them. However, Scott's death has shaken me more than I thought it would. His music meant so much to so many people, including myself. I had the pleasure of seeing the band live in 2014 - the wit, humour and honesty that characterized all of Scott's work came across in their performance almost as soon as they stepped on stage and they were one of those rare bands who sounded as good/if not better live than they did recorded. 

Scott's struggle with depression was also a feature of his music. The fact that he was able to write with such openness and honesty meant that his songs were often bleak, funny, hopeful and always relatable. 

Scott's voice opens and closes this month's mix and he appears in various guises - on the haunting @mogwaiofficial remix of his most recent work as part of Mastersystem, as his solo project Owl John and of course @frightenedrabbit. Along the way, there is new music from @vynehall, @lauramarlingofficial as her new project LUMP and @commodo.

May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, which is as good a time as any to remember that support for mental health issues such as depression is always available. The outpouring of love from fans following Scott's death is a reminder that help is always out there in many forms, be it a smile, a hug or a conversation. It is clear that Scott's music helped so many people make it through the same struggles he had and it is such a shame that he was unable to get through himself. Everyone is fighting their own battles, trying to deal with thoughts and emotions in different ways, which can make the world feel very lonely. However, there is always someone to talk to and in Scott's own words "there is light, but it's a tunnel to crawl through, there is love but it's misery loves you, there's still hope so I think we'll be fine, in these disastrous times, disastrous times."
