The Northern Blues have announced Brent Bransgrove as captain of the Northern Blues Football Club for the 2014 season. 

Bransgrove, 26, has been re-elected for a third successive year having held the captaincy position in a joint role with Andre Gianfagna from 2012 to 2013. 

This is the first year he has held the position outright.

Australian netball champion Cath Cox has startled the netball world, announcing her retirement from international netball effective immediately.

The international goal shooter’s decision comes just weeks before the announcement of the Australian Diamonds squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
 
But after nearly two decades at the top, Cox said the time was right.

Melbourne Vixens and Australian Diamonds netball champion Cath Cox has announced her retirement from international netball effective immediately.

Matthew Lodge reports.

The golden modern era of netball arguably comes to an end as Australian goal shooter Cath Cox today called time on her 16-year international career.

Cox said the decision had been on the horizon for the previous 12 months, despite the Australian Diamonds squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games set to be announced in the coming week.
