Early summer thunderstorm rolling over the Blue Ridge, recorded in the lower corner of a dilapidated barn with a metal roof in the western Piedmont of central Virginia southeast of Rockfish Gap.

Not much like a desperado, but nonetheless waiting for a train, I rolled tape at Staunton Station in advance of Amtrak's westbound Cardinal. The station was built in 1902 to replace the station destroyed in 1890 by a runaway train. That station was a replacement for the original station which was destroyed in 1864 by Union General Hunter. The extant station is currently being renovated to house a new business, likely a restaurant. The facility currently in use as the Amtrak station is the telegraph station from the days when the future of rail travel was bright. There are some sounds of light construction from the station renovation, the occasional passing vehicle on Middlebrook Ave., a light summer storm, birdsong, but no train. That's the riddle of the title: we're all still waiting for this train. I promise I will post it eventually.
