Debuted during Mobilee’s famed off-Sonar week to a frenzied response, French producer/live act Rodriguez Jr. delivers his first highly anticipated EP of 2015.
A renowned perfectionist, Rodriguez Jr. (AKA Olivier Mateu) has been honing his craft for 20 years. It stretches back to the Atari computer and keyboards that dominated his early production experiences, to the years spent disseminating superb on-point electronica as one half of The Youngsters on Laurent Garnier’s seminal F Communications imprint, right up until today when the artists works tirelessly to experiment with his machines in his impressive Brussels-based studio and push his sound forward. 
A mainstay of Anja Schneider’s mobilee collective since 2010, Rodriguez Jr. has been one of the jewels in the label’s crown; his effervescent live sets have made him one of the most exciting artists in his field, while his productions remain classy, catchy and always forward-thinking. 
The ‘Chrysalism’ EP sees Rodriguez Jr. tireless drive to develop his sound signature in full flight, all the while staying true to his core production principles of creating captivating, memorable electronic music.
Utilised to great effect in early stages of his recent live sets, the title track is a master class in dramatic juxtapositions and is an exquisite seven-minute composition of warm uplifting synth layers that build over a rough-edged clatter of drums delicately balancing the elements of tension and beauty on a knife’s edge. 
‘Etoile Du Nord’ (literally meaning ‘Star of the North’) is a dreamy, propulsive slice of Motor City-inspired techno and the kind you could imagine soundtracking a warehouse party at 6am as the sun begins to seep through the cracks in the corrugated iron roof. 
The EP is rounded out by ‘Kenopsia’ that evokes a kind of beautiful, eerie sense of somber as delicate layers of twinkling melody bubble over the contemplative patter of drums and the light drone of bass. 
“Going back in the studio after months of intense touring, almost one year after my 'Persistence Of Vision' EP, has resulted in strong moments of self awareness and experimentation with my machines. This is why I chose titles such as 'Chrysalism' and 'Kenopsia', describing obscure sorrows you could sometimes feel, without being able to name them,” Rodriguez Jr. explains. 
“Technically, this EP is a crucial step as it's a first attempt to define what my forthcoming album will be. I had collected lots of material while travelling, and my aim was to keep on developing my sound signature in order to emphasize the core emotions - it's been all about stripping things down, focusing on melodies and textures and, once again, finding inspiration in my deepest influences such as the early techno from Detroit.”

With recent releases for some of the scene’s leading labels, Fideles (aka Daniele Aprile and Mario Roberti) are an Italian duo on the rise. Inspired by the Ionian sea in Southern Italy, low-pitched basslines and soaring synths give the tracks just the right amount of drama, whilst the rich sound-design allows them to make the most of a big system; something Tale Of Us have put to great use in their sets this year. Take the emotionally-charged title track, the rolling, mechanical drums of ‘Kalotypse’ or the more restrained ‘Hadar’. Fur Coat continue their recently launched Oddity imprint this November with Natural Flow’s ‘Sagittarius’ EP, backed with remixes from Roman Poncet and Dubspeeka.

Hugo Ibarra (Mexico) and Antü Coimbra (Argentina) aka Natural Flow launched their project in 2015 out of their current hometown of Mexico City and have become staples in the Mexican electronic music scene and picked up support further afield from leading talents across the globe such as Tale Of Us, Sasha, Mind Against and of course Fur Coat who they supported on their recent South America tour. 

Here we see Fur Coat, following previous support, welcoming the pair onto the roster of their fledgling Oddity label whilst enlisting some of their favourite artists of late on remix duties, namely Roman Poncet and Dubspeeka.

The original mix of title-track ‘Sagittarius’ opens up the package and sees Natural Flow deliver their haunting Techno aesthetic via murky atmospheric swells, billowing bass drones and shuffled rhythms to create a menacing opening cut. Dubspeeka steps up to remix ‘Sagittarius’ next, stamping his own mark on things with a robust rhythmic drive lying at the forefront of the record as he stirs in the atmospheric elements of the original to ebb and flow throughout.

The flip open with Roman Poncet’s interpretation of ‘Agatha’ and as always from the French Techno aficionado he delivers a weighty dance floor focused contribution employing stomping drums, choppy stabs and modulating synthesizers that all continually evolve and unfold in unison throughout. The second original from Natural Flow, ‘Virgus’, then rounds out the package, a deeper Techno cut that traverses through expansive synth swells, dubbed out melodies and chugging sub bass hits to create an airy peak-time workout.

Berlin-based house and techno wizard Emanuel Satie brings together a plethora of talent for Addis Ababa on Crosstown Rebels. Ninetoes, Mowgan and Matador all join the party to complete this epic EP.
Satie says of the release that it’s “​an homage to worldwide collaboration. While travelling through Ethiopia I recorded traditional musicians, brought the sounds home to Berlin and made electronic tracks out of them with my friends Ninetoes and Mowgan”.
EP opener ​Injera, ​produced with Ninetoes, is a mysterious and bumpy roller. ​Argew Neka, ​made in collaboration with Mowgan, adds tribal song and brings a delicate yet hypnotic groove to the table. Matador’s remix of the latter turns the track completely on its head layering futuristic elements over a harder beat.
Emanuel Satie’s ​career has blown up since he came to our attention in 2016 with his rework of Late Nite Tuff Guy’s remix of ​I Get Deep, w​ hich hit the top spot in the Beatport charts. He’s won the coveted Best Producer award in the DJ Awards and had a string of releases signed to impressive imprints including; Saved Records, Moon Harbour and Knee Deep In Sound. This year saw his track ​Don’t Forget To Go Home ​given the accolade of Essential New Tune from Radio 1 tastemaker Pete Tong at Miami Music Week.

Something's bubbling up on Sum Over Histories' stove. Known for its carefully chosen musical pieces, Frankey & Sandrino's label kicks off 2019 with Impérieux's two tracker 'Mehmed' - an artist and crowd favourite over recent weeks and months. 

The EP's title track, 'Mehmed', precisely depicts Alper's - Impérieux's real name – next stage as a producer. Skilfully elaborated soundscapes meet whizzing percussions that remain in the background and allow the dusky chords to create a sentimental ride through different emotional states. Neatly addressing one's mind, the track consciously plays with the extremes of light and dark in a continuous and alternating manner without giving in to either one of them. 

The Turkish and Bulgarian word for stubborn, 'Inat', marks the name of Impérieux's second track of the EP. The initially introduced vocal-snippets allude to this specific mindset. In combination with the pummelled keys, 'Inat' evokes the impression of the artist directly following his imagined musical path. 'Inat' is so clearly arranged and so profound in its use of mental soundscapes that it's impossible to withdraw from it at any point. 

Impérieux not only gives some deep insights into his current state of mind with 'Mehmed' but first and foremost delivers an EP that satisfies a thoughtful dance floor.

Impérieux's EP 'Mehmed' will be released February 8th, 2019 on Sum Over Histories.

El Campo is the latest project from Alexi Delano and Javier Orduna. Ignited after analogue studio sessions in the Spanish countryside, the pair have been able to explore and create sounds for which they share a mutual passion. The end result being this EP produly released on Rebellion.

"We’d spoken for a long time about going out to the Spanish countryside and writing music inspired by the surroundings. At last we found the time and the right location to seclude ourselves and dive into its tranquility. No audio pollution, just the sound of the wind blowing through the fronds of the palm trees just outside our studio window. We soon found ourselves in a kind of meditative state and the songs began to write themselves."

The EP opens with the gritty industrial beat of ​El Regado. E​ mploying deep whirring melodies, the rushing breakdown is highly complimented by elegant keys. Next up, the hypnotic sounds of ​La Siembra ​are fuelled by ethnic strings and wind instruments, underpinned by a pulsating beat. ​Las Semillas ​closes the EP with a pacey tempo, otherworldly pads, melancholic strings and an abundance of percussion.

Born in Chile, raised in Sweden and later adopted by New York, ​Alexi Delano ​has produced six albums and released on labels such as Minus, Plus 8, Drumcode, Visionquest, Get Physical and Spectral Sound. Spanish export ​Javier Orduna has held down a residency at the prestigious Moog Club in Barcelona alongside a worldwide touring schedule. He’s also released records on respected imprints including Visonquest, VIVa Music, R&S and Chapter 24.
