3 QUESTIONS to NINA HEPBURN:

Q: Getting into the mood for your mix: How did you choose these tracks and how did they influence your career?

A: My voyage towards "How I Met The Bass" starts at the end of my set. Beginning with Blümchen in my childhood. Then my first encounter and love for Drum n Bass with Rudimental in Australia and the arguably greatest Trance hit of all time "Lasgo" at the club in my hometown. I will always remember these songs. My first experiences with Techno were the wonderful Open Airs in Hamburg. Grünanlage with Moonbootica and Kollektiv Turmstraße or Claptone at Uebel & Gefaehrlich. That' s why I have a few Tech-House tracks in my set, which I learned to love in the early days of listening to Techno and also played when I started DJing. This led to me getting more and more into the music, going to many festivals and listening to many DJs play. One of my favorite tracks was Solidary Daze by Maceo Plex. Artists like Kölsch, DJ Koze, Alan Fitzpatrick inspired me as well. I started to go in the melancholic, melodic direction. Over time I found my personal favorite sound that moved me. This is how I selected tracks for my sets. 

Q: Would you still play those tracks and why?

A: Yes definitely, maybe not all of them but anything that goes into the melodic direction are still tracks that I strongly relate to and would also bring into my sets. Perhaps I should put the tracks on my USB stick again. There are certainly many people in the audience who remember them. After all, it wasn't that long ago.

Q: Which projects are you currently working on and what can we expect from you soon?

A: I'm ending the wonderful and exciting year 2022 with a remix for Avidus, which will be released on their own label Empore Music. For me it’s an honor cause I really admire Avidus as artists and felt so so happy when they asked me. You can also expect more music from me soon. I'm still working on new tracks and constantly developing myself in music production. So there is a lot more to come.

Self-reflective, critical, edgy, highly motivated and passionate about music - artist duo, live-act, DJs or simply spoken Kollektiv Turmstrasse reveal their story of success, which has not always been going into one direction only. Christian Hilscher and Nico Plagemann have been a scene’s mainstay for a good 20 years; two decades of intensively working, living, traveling, laughing and arguing with each other or, as the both say, ‘having a marriage-like relationship’. But aside from the all too human sides, Nico and Christian provided the community, the scene with several formidable releases like ‘Abenteuer Alltag’, the duo’s first EP on Diynamic, ‘Blutsbrüder’ on their very own label Musik Gewinnt Freunde, ’Rebellion der Träumer’, their album on Connaisseur Recordings, ‘Sry I’m Late’ or their upcoming ‘RibbonReef EP’, just to name a few. But their discography contains more than catchy chord-influenced potential hits, it reveals what’s most important to them, their relationship, what they enjoy in their time off, the everyday life and situations they experience and also unveil certain gaps in-between some of their music. ‘In-between’ seems to be the word that best describes the chat with Christian and Nico as Torture the Artist catches up with Kollektiv Turmstrasse in-between the release of their ‘Noisy Nights’ remixes for Holtoug on Connaisseur Recordings and their first EP, ‘RibbonReef’ on Musik Gewinnt Freunde, after three years. The music collective gives reasons for temporal gaps ‘in-between’ their releases and if you read ‘in-between’ Nico and Christian’s lines you’ll discover what, aside from the obvious and mentioned reasons, is significant to the both at a human and musical level and why they are still as motivated and passionate about what they do as back then when they started - just a little bit more mature, maybe professional but definitely honest and (self)-critical.
