Matt ! You're a genious ! There are mounds of Genesis Fans that don't even have a clue about instrumentals like "Do The Neurotic" , and you have done an awesome version !  Congratulations !

A slightly different version of Tony Banks' In The Dark from the album A Curious Feeling. The whole thing is from memory and not from a MIDI, or analysis of the original track so I'm not confident the chords are correct. However, they seem to fit ok and don't sound horrific so that's good enough for me.

As an experiment to see if the music stands up to the original with the vocals, this is my version albeit with vocals ripped from the original song (Spectralayers 9). I've had to re-time the vocals a little bit. I think the second half is more successful than the first half and it's obvious I don't have professional mixing or mastering but for something I've had to figure the music out for myself I'm quite pleased with it.

As this contains original vocals copyright must be respected a bit more than a usual cover. I haven't sought permission for the vocals and I make no claim to any part of this version of the track apart from the instrumentation and arrangement of the backing track.

There is always the instrumental version available elsewhere on my playlists.

Lion of Symmetry (Toyah Vocals)

Entirely VST - no real guitars were harmed in making this. Guitar tracks created by my own software, hopefully a certain level of realism is achieved, although I can spot where it's not perfect.

The guitar tabs were from a YouTube video (I will post the link when I find it).

Entangled (VST) (Genesis cover - Karaoke version)

This is a chord progression and vague melody idea i keep revisiting since coming up with it some 20-ish years ago.

There are a great many things that made this one a whole lot of fun for me:

1) The drums are out of time 'cause i played them myself.   ^_^   There's two tracks of 'em, panned hard Left and hard Right.

2) The little piano doodle added at the end was inspired by the piano coda on the end of "Beatbox (diversion one)" by The Art of Noise.  

3) Each instrument was recorded at different times and places, often weeks apart.   (E.g., The drums and bass guitars were tracked in the dead of winter at my band's old practice space; the keyboards were recorded at home in the summer.)

3) That warm string pad that lays out the harmony is a recently acquired Roland JX-8P.  The chord progression came to me when playing an excellent *sample* of that JX-8P preset via an Ensoniq EPS some 20+ years ago.  Good thing i wrote out all my parts back then!

For those interested, the progression is Eb6 to A7 (x2), then F#7add9 to C7.  It's hard to mess that one up!

Twilight (2015 "organic" version)

Just a doodle on piano and keys.

(It's not a *real* Yamaha CS-80, but actually a patch on a Kurzweil K2500 that emulates one of the classic CS-80 presets.)

I first recorded this as a MIDI file back in the late 90's which then ended up on a MIDI hosting website.

This version has been updated for the 2020s. It's still not perfect but I feel an improvement on what was there before.

Mysteria Obscura (Eddie Jobson tribute)

Stayed up late last night making music and this was one of the results. Nothing too fancy. Played all the instruments myself, as per usual – though not all of ‘em simultaneously, of course!  ;-)

Hodgepod #1

I wanted to give this a go - writing is a bit of a blank at the moment. Varying degrees of success and failure on this, but as a first try I'm happy with it. Certain things are missing and the whole thing is unfinished. There's no guitar solo either - cuz I'm a rubbish guitarist.

All VST apart from guitars and bass.

The drums are VST, albeit played live with an e-drumkit.
There are some Simmons samples in this!! Gotta love the 80s!

This one came together rather quickly – maybe a total of one half hour total to quickly compose and record each track, one right after another.

Instruments used:  Korg KARMA (drums, pad sound, piano) and Novation MiniNova (Moog Taurus bass).

Strictly amateur stuff here, folks. What's mine is distinctly average at best, but there's a few Genesis-and-related covers in here, and also a few Genesis-inspired tracks of my own; I have many more of my own but I'm not sure the world is ready for them(!).

I don't really have any equipment (apart from e drums) younger than 20 years old; I'm afraid it doesn't sound as good as I'd like, but never blame your tools!

I may be ending this account soon. For what I pay I'm just not getting the traffic that I feel justifies it...shame.
