Patrick Miller is a club, and a DJ, one and the same since the early 80s, in Mexico City, in the classic resident DJ tradition.

As far as I can tell, it's one of the few places on the planet where hardcore Hi-NRG lovers still regularly convene to dance to their favorite classics and relive the good old days. Vice did a fun mini doc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqaN0MPMVP0

I made this mix to process my grief that I would never get to experience it. The track selection is mostly based on my favorites from listening to a variety of old Patrick Miller mixtape recordings I could find on Youtube. I even added his DJ ID for fun a few times throughout (no impersonation intended).

Since then I've learned that it's reopened, and I look forward to visiting some day.

Patrick Miller Tribute Mix

This mix is dedicated to Ryan Lee who reignited my love for this music way back in OODE VIII.

Not an especially great mix technically but the cuts speak for themselves. This is my favorite style of dance music, and somehow this is the first time I ever played a pure set of it in front of a dancefloor full of friends. It won't be the last(that's either a promise or a threat depending on how you feel about all this).

All vinyl except for Noise Overload and Force Mass Motion (couldn't find it). I meant to play The House Crew - We Are Hardcore but the flip isn't so bad.

forgot to mention, the title for this mix was "we worship in the church of our choice" (for perhaps obvious reasons). truer words have never been spoken.

I almost didn't post this one. There are some sloppy mixes but for the most part I think my issue with this mix is that it didn't live up to the hype I'd conjured up in my head when I finally did it. This was played to a mostly empty dancefloor (though I love you folks that supported) and I'm starting to realize that it's not the technical mastery of your mixes or the sequencing of the tracks that ultimately matters but whether you actually forged a moment, a memory that is remembered by more than just the DJ. (In this case, I think I failed).

The initial idea for this mix was "midwest acid" and it grew to too many different themes and got a bit unwieldy.

I was blessed to play midday Saturday again. Daytime allows so much freedom, but 90 minutes is too short. This is a rerecording of my set. I changed the order of a few tracks, added four more that I wanted to play but didn't have time for, and let the key ending track breathe for its full 15 minutes.

No tracklist this time at least for now, but happy to ID anything.

Streamed May 21 2022 a week after my first and only trip to Florida. I didn't hear any of this music while I was there but I was inspired to make this mix nonetheless. Seems like '85 to '88 were the golden years. Everything on this mix is from Miami except for a few which are at least from elsewhere in Florida.

Halloween Mix 2024

For my 9th Chillits appearance I went a bit more back to my roots with a more eclectic “ambient” approach (rather than the daytime balearic vibes of the previous two years). Initially I had wanted to play later in the dead of night (where it all started) but I ended up getting to soundtrack the transition from day to night and as the sun began to set everything felt absolutely perfect.
