Phonica walks into the fall months, but by no means are we saying goodbye to Summer just yet. With a weekend ahead looking to be well into the late twenties we are looking for somewhere to get our sweat on one last time. Enter Grace Sands! 
Grace is not only a regular in our shop but also a London legend. Being one of the founding members of the DiY Soundsystem, she has been holding it down since the early 90's originally as well as one half of Digs & Woosh alongside the late Peter Birch. These days you can find Grace holding it down at her residency at London's queer warehouse party Adonis or all over the world playing the likes of Fabric, Panorama Bar, Kala Festival and NYC Downlow at Glastonbury to only name a few. For this mix Grace has brought us our sweat in the form of an hour of pure driven house, tech and acid mixed to seamless perfection. This is Phonica 112: Grace Sands.

Sam is a resident at the infamous East London party Pumping Velvet which takes place every two months at the much loved Dalston Superstore. For those in the know, this is a venue with a storied reputation as one of the most influential LGBTQ+ venues in the city and has been a home and safe space to music lovers and free spirits for many, many years.

As such, the role of a resident DJ in such as space is in high demand and highly acclaimed. Only the best and the most creative selectors are given the reigns. We are delighted to spotlight and showcase one such DJ in Sam PV who has built a reputation as a talented selector who knows how to read a room with skill and decorum.

Introduced to us by a friend, this mix takes us on a whirlwind tour across a breadth of sounds, featuring both a UK influence and music from further afield. It’s a riotous selection of Garage, Kuduro, Breakbeat and beyond which firmly celebrates the modern sound of club culture in London.

Blush aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

"Being given the opportunity to step away from club music and curate a mix focussed around meditation and wellness was challenging and exciting. I wanted to create as best as possible a continuous textural piece, full of soundscapes, low rolling bass and scattered percussion, reminiscent of the ups and downs you can sometimes find yourself going through during a meditation process."

Matt Broderick (AKA Leo Bloom) is a London-based radio producer and DJ, with deep-rooted interests in all styles of dance music, and the communities the pioneer the genre.
