Although Los Angeles-based producer Matt Lange has been developing his own take on dark, driving, futurist house and techno for a half-decade now, the buzz around him kicked into overdrive after Mau5trap boss Deadmau5 publicly lauded his new material on Twitter and agreed to put out Lange's stellar album Ephemera, released this September. 

Now, THUMP has Matt Lange ON DECK, and the 50-minute selection is quite the dark journey. Bookended by Lange originals, the mix cheats a penchant for Drumcode with tracks by Sasha Carassi and Nicole Moudaber alongside tunes from Scuba and Oxia.

That's exactly what happened when Imogen Heap approached me 2 years ago.  Unfortunately it ended up getting locked up in major label purgatory and never saw the light of day.  Until now. About a year and a half ago I played probably my favorite headlining set I had done so far at CODA. We recorded it, and it's been living up on soundcloud ever since. We decided to do it again as part of @FLOHToronto's Live Set series. There are quite a few goodies in here.

I’ve been a big fan of Periphery since the inception of the band, and I’ve certainly been influenced by them at times in my own work as well. A few years ago I ended up at a group dinner in Silver Lake with Matt Halpern as he was in town playing drums with Mick Gordon, the composer of the Doom soundtrack (he is also incredible, I might add). Over the course of a couple drinks and some buffalo cauliflower, dinner serendipitously turned into having access to the multitracks of their most recent album, Periphery III, as well as forging some new friendships that I’m very grateful for. Ultimately, they suggested I take on Lune, which was one one of the more overtly melodic tracks of the album, and a little while later this is what came out. Truthfully, it’s one of the best remixes I think I’ve done in a very long and I’m very pleased to be able to share it with you finally. They’re all such incredibly talented musicians that it was very difficult not to be inspired by what they composed, and it’s an honor to have been able to put my stamp on it.

A huge Thank You is owed to Matt, Misha, Mark, Jake and Spencer for allowing me to feed Lune through the blender. I’m indebted to your generosity and musicality.
