Ditty for the Hippy(A demo,a memo,rough & true,nor finished but due)

Circa 95’ ? Its my duty to share a song, a song that has so much Pain, love, emotion, and a truth to oneself….
Let me explain

I was living in Elizabeth bay, and what a treat it was… With some best of friends , enjoying my single life, working, writing music, and finding myself….
I loved the fact where I lived was so close to the hustle and bustle of the cross, yet, our home felt like an oasis….. Waking up, coming home and Looking out across Rushcutters bay and its natural beauty was something to behold. 
I loved the Juxtaposition of every day, walking through the cross and zig zagging across the pavement as a courtesy as not to walk into someone…. Eventually people got to know me, no more “do you want a girl” etc.. In a way, I really felt part of the community, and without question, there was a mutual respect…..  Those days are gone, and unfortunately so has the “Bubbling Life” of the X.
But I digress.

Its this period when working in a music store I met Rob… and by almost the purist of definitions , a Englishman. 
A gentleman with a soft soul that bound me by his honesty and wisdom.
Bizarrely, as fate has it, he lived literally a few streets away from me,  I invited him over to my place….
And with that, through process, this song was born.

He saw my home setup, listened to some songs id just finish with Pete, and was just blown away…
Stories were swapped, jokes were told, beers were drank….. 
So Muso to Muso….Friend to Friend….  I said, “You want to do a song?’
Boy, was that a moment…. 
He told me there was a song he wrote (with Van Morrison… Im like WTF?) that was never recorded, so handed him my Guitar and he played it…..
His Baritone voice hit me, the Lyrics delicate….  Wow…We have to do this…

And we did, sure did.
As you may realise, Robs not a lead guitar player as you may notice, , but there is so much melancholy in its delivery, I just had to leave it there.....
The essence of this song has no bounds… It really is something that anyone can emotionally relate to.

It was mostly recorded in a day….  However, had a few days ….. Me being me, Added some Sax, Choirs, a few piano lines, and the thunder… he was struck…… (pun intended) and I was given a thumbs up of approval…
i guess im happy and honoured  in the fact i was in someway a “medium” to allow him to tell his story through music.

I didn’t see him soon after as I believe he had some family/personal issues, and I think ,moved up to the mountains….
Im pretty sure at the time he was around 60, which makes it hard to digest that he might not be around anymore….
If you are Rob, I hope this song finds you, if not, though short term, it was a friendship I will always treasure.

Hopefully with your blessing , Im going to share that special moment.

Get in the way back machine when VR was but a expensive, unreachable piece of hardware, not experience by many..
Damned if i know how Xian did it, but in 91, The powerhouse Museum in sydney had a W-Industries setup, and he approached them re a song to promote the installation.
Money?  Na…
But.. 3 hrs or so playing Dactyl Nightmare before the public had access…
Oh….My…. God…….
There and then…  i know what the gaming future would be… just took almost 30 or so years to make it into my lounge room…

And that  is how this song was born.
