DJ MAG ES tiene el placer de presentar a Carol Mattos, una de las mayores exponentes de la nueva generación de artistas electrónicos que vienen pisando el acelerador a fondo, tras su actuación en 2019 en Boiler Room, saltaron todas las alarmas para tener a esta embajadora de la electrónica de culto en el radar. 

El sonido de Carol Mattos es una experiencia hipnótica con múltiples capas que combinan sintetizadores cósmicos, sonidos de maquinaria industrial e intensos ritmos oscuros. 

Busca sus referencias en el synth pop de los 80, dark wave y disco, detroit acid y muchas de las nuevas producciones latinoamericanas. Con fuertes líneas de bajo, elementos orgánicos y sonidos futuristas, crea una atmósfera inmersiva que involucra a la pista de baile en un viaje cósmico. 

Carol se inició en la escena electrónica independiente con el colectivo MASTERp la no, en Belo Horizonte, Brasil, que produce fiestas con el objetivo de redescubrir la ciudad y cuestionar su funcionalismo restrictivo. 

También promueven encuentros y talleres para discutir y producir a partir de cuestionamientos que superan la experiencia festiva, como diversidad, género, sexualidad, territorio, producción independiente y otros.

En 2016 se convirtió en DJ residente en MAMBA NEGRA y también inició Sintetica, una fiesta que tiene como objetivo crear espacio y dar visibilidad a mujeres que operan en diferentes campos de la escena de la música electrónica. 

En 2017 Carol tocó en la primera edición del festival DGTL en Brasil, el festival MECA, dos ediciones de Kubik y en Ubris, en Côte d'Ivoire, en África. Residente en São Paulo, ha estado en algunas de las principales fiestas y sellos de la escena independiente brasileña en 11 ciudades diferentes, como Capslock, ODD (São Paulo), Vapor (Brasilia), MOO (Rio de Janeiro) y Sweetuf Records ( Curitiba). El equipo de la fiesta está compuesto en su totalidad por mujeres y personas no binarias.

We've been avid listeners and fans of Brazilian artist Carol Mattos (@MattosCarol)  for some time and were delighted to hear when we made contact that the feeling was mutual. It took some time to make this work due to unforeseen circumstances which you can read in her interview, however it was certainly worth the wait. In her own words...' I wanted to make it really special, since Sinchi Collective is one of my main references, so I gathered my favourite tracks from these past months, but it wasn’t easy to put them together.. Also, I’ve been away from the dance-floor for a long time now (even before the lockdown started, I had to stay at home because I broke one of my ribs completely) and I’m missing it pretty hard, so it’s a mix with tracks that made me dance even at home. They also have a touch of resistance and optimism into them, so I hope they can liven up the listeners the way they did to me :)'.

"This is one of my darkest mixes and somehow reflects on the hardships we are currently going through. There is a strong connection between south american and russian productions, places that, despite being far away, have been heavily affected by our system and have similar sonorities. Thus we have density, depth and anger, but also urge for resistance. The “Morte do Leiteiro”/ “The Death of the Milkman”, one of it’s tracks, is built on a poem about a milkman that was killed while bringing milk to wealthy houses before dawn and was mistaken for a muggler. It is a symbol of worker's resistance, as they keep getting their lifes at stake while serving the bigger ones; as while in pandemic times, they don’t get the choice to stay at home." - Carol Mattos
