The Shulamite was once (3000 years ago) considered the most beautiful woman in the world. Solomon devoted an entire book of the Bible to her beauty and his love for her. This composition imagines the time when he sees her the first time in the evening hours walking among the trees and flowers of the royal garden. She is a tall, slender Ethiopian woman mysteriously blending with this evening's last gleaming light and pale moon initiating the night.

Have you ever found one of those dilapidated pianos, ready for the trash man? It is in ill repair, has been neglected and yet you feel this strange kinship, as if it was you and you try so hard to make the sounds, sound sweet... one more time anyhow...

Having fun! Imagine a young Hawaiian woman, her name is Destiny, dancing a waltz all by herself in among the palm trees in anticipation of soon getting married to her lover.

Destiny's Hawaiian Waltz

The Passacaglia was an artform first introduced in Italy and made prominent in Spain of the 17th century. My composition is based on a rhythm and sentence by Bach's Passacaglia in C minor.  The passacaglia is meant to interlude and therefore to take a breath in contemplation.  Ever taken a time to rethink on the bases of how life worked out in a certain way?

The slow walk of a funeral procession is emulated to remember Michael's cost of having taken over the position of Don to the Corleone "business". In Godfather III a  bullet grazes Michael's shoulder, but the other accidentally hits Mary, Michael's beloved daughter, (played by Francis De Coppola's daughter Sofia) in the heart, killing her instantly. Michael is devastated by Mary's death, which happens as he is beginning to finally put his life as Don Corleone behind him and rekindle his estranged relationship with Kay. A broken man, he retires to Sicily, where he eventually dies of old age nearly 20 years later. This music is for Mary since really, in the end much pomp and circumstance is afforded the mourning of the guilty.

So why call it the Don's Last Walk? Because it is Mary's death that is his own.

Wildflowers In The Wind

This piece of music evolved from a poem I conceived a few evenings ago in response to a book that compiles Civil War Memories.

When first the field appeared
the soldier in his blood laid
bare, before their eyes
with whispers only
upon his breath
they waited
when he 
waned.

though deep 
the blue and sunny skies
this day had kissed the night;

at last
his soul
let go

of fields and grass
of birds and song and merry melody

they could hear nothing
just his last and last of his
that was his sigh.

Then carried they
their son, their brother, their nephew
and their enemy,
upon their shoulders
to such a grave,

as was engraved
within their hearts.

The joys of fall are intense with colors, a glass of wine, red cheeks and nose, the smiles and laughter echoing in the fresh crisp air of sunshiny days that dream away as if they have no time at all. 
I know you know, all hearts aglow with "deedl-dydle-dy-dum-doe!"
(Lol, the dictionary did not know those words and insisted that "dydle" should spell cycle... figures)

the prairie is distant to most... the cowboy's life lost longing is intricately woven into wide and open sky and spaces where yarns of lostness find the heart at rest... when dusk calls for the herd to evening water, it is here and on its way that the sound of hoofs and soil are muffled only by the music of the soul...

Wrote this composition this morning after getting inspired sitting at the piano. On a trek to unknown ... until you get there. The imagination is a place where you can go wherever you want, even places that "don't exist"...  but they do... I arranged it to include the bass string, the violoncello and viola, the alto flute, drums and the piano. Thank you for listening and by all means if you like it? Like it! :)

This piece is written for The Piano Cloud group competition called "Ivory and Ebony". This part is the Ivory part and wants to celebrate the constant tender touch and love between a baby and mom elephant. "Ivory" is the name the elephant clan gave the baby by unanimous vote.
