Matt Townsend (b.1987 in Boston, MA) is a Songwriter and Recording/Performing artist living in Asheville, NC. His first EP entitled“What Light Shall Be”was released in November 2012 to positive reviews. His Full Length LP, recorded with a full band, “Matt Townsend and the Wonder of the World” is due for release in late 2013. With meaningful, poetic lyrics, Townsend's songs weave themes of spiritual and romantic longing, birth, death and everything in between through webs of imagery and metaphor, creating songs that connect universally while remaining personally vulnerable. Influenced by strange dreams and visions as well as the songwriting of Jeff Mangum, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and many many more, Matt Townsend's songs emerge out of the folk tradition, rock and roll and indie/alternative pop-rock, infused with unique melody and subtle grace, all written and sung from a view point of the soul.
