It Pains Me So

This is a cover/reimagining of a Radiohead B-side called Gagging Order, from the 2004 EP "COM LAG (2plus2is5)". Most of the guitar is a straight cover of the original (with a few timing changes and an extended ending), but I reimagined the vocal melodies quite a bit, adding harmonies for multiple voices.

I claim almost no creative ownership.  The brilliance of this emanated fully formed from the addled brain of a busted fridge magnet in the shape of a banjo that I'm told used to actually sound like a banjo, but for the short time that I had known it it sounded like this instead, in certain inspired moments.  My creative contribution was only to share it with the world.  Someone had to.  For the Kannappels with love.

Rockin' Chair 4 - 30 - 15

A few months before I moved away from my beloved hometown, a friend loaned me a cello.  This is a farewell to that town, played on that cello.  I'd always wanted to play cello and that was my first chance to try.  This is one of the things I was able to come up with.

I like to make sad music with whatever instruments are at hand.  Sometimes I make happy music, but I like the sad music the best.  I like to experiment with tuning and temperament in order to express the greatest possible sadness.  A flat minor third is so bitterly unfulfilled, and I enjoy its flavor.
