Hi lovelies, 
I wanted to share one of my sets from my dates on the Plaid tour. This mix is for the IDM angels, the braindancers & the neuro-knots, as it's chock full of dreamy ambient elements, cinematic tension, percussion workouts & even a few forthcoming pieces from yours truly. It was unbelievable to feel the connectivity during these sets, and to play compositions in a deep listening space. Scuffed Recordings with Maude Vôs - 29 May 2024

Today Maude Vôs celebrates their recent EP release on Scuffed Recordings with a set on dublab. The EP entitled, Unearthed is an abstract leftfield club record capturing the textural landscape of Maude’s home in Topanga. Maude transformed numerous field recordings with granular synthesis techniques and wove them alongside cinematic strings, synths, bells and vocals to compose the 3 tracks. Maude then reached out to 2 esteemed producers, Parisian artist Trypheme and the Brussels based artist Leese for remixes of the compositions. The EP features vocals from the Oregon singer songwriter, SOLARPLEXXUS for a femme fronted record. This record embodies protection, conservation, connection and release. Maude hopes you enjoy this hour of nature inspired electronica for an entry into the spring season.

Objekt launches his new label, Kapsela, with a 10-year anniversary reissue of his lauded production ‘Ganzfeld’. An ambitious, evocative electro/IDM epic with cavernous drums and a riotously funky bass solo, Ganzfeld was initially released in 2014 on Leisure System as the B-side of Hypnagogia, a split EP with Detroit electro pioneers Dopplereffekt. It quickly garnered critical acclaim (including Track Of The Year by Resident Advisor) and amassed a cult following despite clocking in at 147bpm, a relatively unwieldy tempo for most DJs at the time. Given the seismic shifts in tempo and genre that have taken place in the 10 years since and the emergence of a new generation of producers with whom Ganzfeld’s influence has resonated, 2024 seemed like the perfect moment for a re-release.

Commissioning remixes for the first time, Objekt enlists Djrum, who delivers a jaw-dropping 10-minute rendition which weaves through multiple genres and tempos with the cinematic flair of a short film score. Milan’s Piezo contributes a taut, prickly interpretation that builds tension at 80bpm before exploding into a cathartic double-time closer. Finally, US ambient artist Ulla fully deconstructs the original into a serene, undulating lullaby.

"I'm a noodler." The vaunted experimental producer and DJ discusses his playful approach to engaging with philosophy and making art live at Atonal's OPENLESS in Berlin. 

British artist Lee Gamble has long been captivating listeners with high concept dance music. A loyal affiliate of Kode9's Hyperdub label, Gamble—whose work sits somewhere at the intersection of philosophy, computer music and sound art—has been building weird and wonderful musical worlds that have shot him to experimental stardom since the early 2010s. In this RA Exchange recorded live from Hard Wax (at the one-off weekender Atonal OPENLESS), Gamble meditates on his penchant for eschewing conventions, beginning with growing up in the countercultural, working class hub of Birmingham.

Gamble reflects on the first time he experienced what's called "future shock", a reference to a book by the same name written by sci-fi author Alvin Toffler. It set him on the pursuit of finding and making music that had a similarly bizarre quality. Gamble isn't just a producer but an avid admirer and connoisseur of critical theory, and he also discusses the thinkers who have informed his production (and even his approach to DJing), as well as his recent interest in the ethics and applications of AI and deep fakes, which he explores in a touching full-length, Models. Woozy’s annual WZY.5 compilation summit gathers for its fourth instalment, celebrating 9 artists of dubwise disposition that maintains the label and its founder EMA’s spellbinding tradition in futurist soundsystem music. No Sir, Maude Vôs, Jossy Mitsu, Chewlie, Beaabea, Mantra, Introspekt, Ila Brugal and Honeydrip all feature for another bumper showcase of ambitious club sounds.

WZY4.5’s welcoming address looks to No Sir’s Dilate, an elastic-shock of icy swagger that rudely snaps under the serious sub pressure. Maude Vôs’ Faerie Ring gurgles with psy-eye wonder amidst its half-time hypnosis, before the chromatic piston-breaks of Arena bounce around Jossy Mitsu’s irresistible kinetics. Chewlie’s Blaze Of Sobriety is a crooked stepper of wide-eyed abstraction that swivels on an addictive head-nod lurch, while Pixelate’s taut trip through Beaabea’s stern kick-drum ballistics offers some dastardly club drama. Mantra then signals the rave siren, meditating on a percussive half step before igniting the jungle (dub) tekno fervour of Bedrock. Introspekt’s naughty 2-stepper Digital throbs in a see-saw of LFO menace and crisp swung-drum mechanics, before Moth’s blunted dancefloor haze illuminates Ila Brugal’s effortlessly rolling groove. On closing remarks is Honeydrip with Aspire, a zooted stepper of heavenly breakbeat joy that skanks sub-heavy style to its and WZY4.5’s glorious conclusion.

Maude Vôs is a Los Angeles based DJ, producer, sound designer and founder of the label Delusional Records ( @delusional_records ). Maude has several notable releases and remixes to their credit, including releases on Yuku, Scuffed Recordings and Science Cult. Maude’s sets and productions swirl with airy vocals, metallic textures & rigid grooves. Vôs appears in the book Patch and Tweak with Korg (Bjooks, 2022), was recently named an artist to watch by DJ Mag, and has been featured by Spin, Perfect Circuit, Output and Beatportal. In addition, they have produced for vocalists, film shorts, art galleries and fashion shows. Maude is active in sharing their craft, hosting workshops on Ableton, sound design and synthesis within their community, as well as teaching audio production to young women and at-risk youth for non-profits. As founder of Delusional Records(nominated by DJMag for best breakthrough label in 2023), Maude is dedicated to uplifting FLINTA, BIPOC & API artists within the realm of electronica.
