“Big-Sounding Gospel Grunge”
That’s how Maurice Flavel describes his first full-length album, up for release in April 2019. The seasoned Perth singer and songwriter, responsible for sparking both the Drones and the Kill Devil Hills, hatched another band plan five years ago. 
“I was writing songs about healing and redemption, and I wanted a gospel choir of voices with a filthy rock sound.” So he put together a band fit for purpose:  original Gutterville Splendour Six bass player Stefan Hamilton, one of Perth’s more versatile guitarists in Peter Gordon,  and ex-Healers drummer Miles Hitchcock, together with three female backing singers: Paige McNaught (PMX), Mel  Maharaj, and Mae Elliot. When gigs started, keyboardist David Siroen (Them Jackdaws) was added to the sound. 
“We gigged for two years then went to the studio,” Flavel says. “We have an intense sound with a soft spot, so we called it The Intensive Care.”
The name fits the musical journey. Flavel’s songs cover serious, adult themes.  Title track “Heal Me” is about a relative who fought and beat cancer. “Move A Mountain” describes Flavel’s own struggle to get out of a wheelchair after a back injury; “Clear Day” is about the search for mental and emotional clarity.
