Program Notes: 
The proverb “the more things change, the more they stay the same” is usually taken at face value as a sentiment of dissatisfaction and weariness. Having been exploring the concept of time and impermanence in a series of works, I found myself questioning the validity of this uncontested statement. I came to realize that a more accurate statement might be “the more things change, the more my desire for permanence increases.” The tension between the awareness of impermanence and the desire for permanence created an inner dialogue that uncovered emotions, ranging from excitement to resistance to wonderment, which were invaluable to my creative process. 

“The More Things Change” was commissioned by newEar contemporary chamber ensemble for the 20th Anniversary Season.

"Golem" for contrabass clarinet (2004) - (Sebastian Borsch)

The Ouverture for La Serva Padrona is a brand new piece of music commissioned by the Ravenna Festival organisation in order to merge the new musical language of current composers and seamlessly introduce the actual opera. The first excerpt adopts a 21st-century "Lo-fi Hip-Hop" style, creating a relaxing and dreamy atmosphere inspired by streaming. The second excerpt returns to orchestral basics, influenced by Stravinsky's neoclassicism and Ligeti's rhythmic complexities, blending with Pergolesi's older language. References to electronic music aim to bridge the contrast between sections and the music material on which it is based are the arias and the recitativos the characterise the opera.

MOULT (2018–19), for orchestra

I recorded a little improvisation I did on the piano this morning.
All sounds are created using an e-bow circuit machine built in collaboration with Jan Bernstein and Mickey van Olst, with the support of Villa Médicis. No electronics, no amplification, what you hear is simply the vibration of the piano strings.
