Andrey Terekhov is known to the world as Eastcolors, and is known for his wide-scale, expansive sound on releases for labels such as Critical, Samurai and Hospital. Now, it is Demand Records who take up the talented young Russian’s work, The Swiss imprint is respected the world over for its strength of roster, quality of releases and forward-thinking vision. The perfect combination of artist and label, then, for the issue of The Light EP.

The original is straight up classic Eastcolors, with ranging depth, soulful vocals and urgent, percussive beats. The flow is augmented with some flashing electronics, smooth delivery and top drawer arrangement and production. Truly a gifted musician, if you have slept on Eastcolors up to now, it’s time to wake up.

The original is accompanied by four remixes, with Beastie Respond going all late-night on things, with some retro-sounding strings and bass added to their version. The remix still has the contemplative beauty of EC’s mix, but is taken in another direction. Imagine 80s soul and funk clashing with some sleazy house elements, and you might get close. Different, exciting, and perfectly fitting.

The Look Light remix on the other hand, is a more minimal, laid-back move. Stripping away some of the outer layers, Look Light instead focus on the groove, turning things on their heads as they cover some serious UK funky/garage ground. Phil Tangent ramps up the bass, as his remix moves from electro bursts to deep, close d&b in the blink of an eye. Troy Gunner, star of Mindset, Brownswood and The Crescent amongst others, adds elements of dub as he breaks the track down and slowly rebuilds it into a club bubbler for those that like their music serious and funky.

The remix package is perfectly balanced, and is one of the most varied you will hear all year. The release is topped off with Moonwalker, with Noel, which sees more running beats and booming bass, with an interesting undertow and touches of jazz in the corners.

Parhelia returns to Offworld, following on from his excellent Imaginarium Ep to give us 4 slices of the finest quality atmospheric drum and bass.  
Track one on this EP is Muun which layers plucky synths and pianos over polyrhythmic drums to create a dreamy excursion that dances on the edge of IDM and drum and bass music.  
It Was Raining And Something Was Lost is an instant atmospheric classic that combines all the necessary elements expected but retains a fresh feel.  
Up next is Sneg III, a beautiful piano-driven jam that reaches left-field territory with its unique percussion.  Wrapping up the release is White Flag (remastered) which featured on the charity bandcamp exclusive 'Music Without Borders' Lp, a masterpiece of musicality from beginning to end.

SCI025 – Chilling on the Couch .03 LP

The 25th release on Scientific is the third part of the “Chilling on the Couch” series, which stands for deep, atmospheric, experimental music around the 170bpm mark. 

This time Scientific brings you 15 chilled out tracks, starting with some tunes that have an experimental, deep drum&bass vibe to them, such as Microfunk Crew (Bop & Oak)’s remix of Naibu’s “Fighting for Attention” track that was released on Naibu’s “Case Study LP”, another release on Scientific. Mav’s “From here to Eternity”, for which he teamed up with newcomer Sargon Empire, as well as Brazil’s legendary Bungle with his tune “Concession”, Parhelia’s “Life for Saturn”, Eissi’s “Star”, both Marso & Gala’s “Attraction” and “Untruth” and mSdoS & dBase’s collab “Greek Oracles” are other great examples of this.

The other half of the album edges more towards a combination of soothing ambient music, downtempo/triphop vibes and here and there some deep dubstep (deepstep/chillstep) influences. You will hear this in Halo’s 2 tracks “A few days without Darkness” and “E X I T” that have a bit of a Massive Attack kind of vibe, but also in Physical Illusion’s “Ascent to Orbit”, Readsense & FlashbackFM’s “Take me way”, Parhelia’s “Over a fields of Light” and Seathasky’s “Beauty made in Small Pieces”.
All in all, this album is a pure trip, perfect for those that like to explore the deep realms of space. We hope you like it!

Microfunk Music has released a new EP called "Puzzles". The release contains four tracks by Microfunk artists that will soon be releasing their solo records on the label.

The compilation provides a glimpse into the future sound of the Microfunk label. You'll find vintage IDM melodies from Microfunk Crew in the track "Bikini Bottom", and futuristic glitches in the ambient epos "Sparkling Lake" by Dissident. "Minimal Love" by Subwave stands out with its meditative vibe that's somehow still at home on the dancefloor, and Nuage opens up new horizons for the evolution of his and the label’s sound with his 160-bpm track "Parallel".

"Puzzles EP" is out now digitally on Bandcamp and will be available in other shops / streaming services on the 1st November. A limited edition of tote bags and prints with the artwork are available via Bandcamp.
