It's been a couple of years since i've done one of these, but with the amount of good music that's been released in 2013 i really couldn't resist putting in the effort. The tracks that made it in this mix are the ones that really stood out for me and managed to still sound fresh after many plays, i've decided not to approach this mix from a club perspective because i didn't want it to end up sounding like just another live recording. i've been working on the tracklist all year, so i hope you guys enjoy it even though i had to remove 4 tracks from the end as Ableton wouldn't let me bounce the project because it was too big... Underground Audio has never been a label that shies away from delivering big room goods, and their latest is another stunning reminder of just why they’ve quickly emerged into one of the UK’s finest proponents of quality house music. It comes at us from the dab hand that is Sick Elektrik, a Manchester-based duo who are quickly making a name for themselves courtesy of their slick, uncompromising sound. Such a way of working bears fruit once more here, as the lads introduce us to that That’s Right EP, their debut outing for Underground Audio. 

Full of memorable big-room vibes, the original is a synth-soaked gem that’ll have the crowd worked into a frenzy in no time. As it rises and unfurls it gradually becomes more and more manic, while a well trodden vocal sample and some canny stabs keep the juices flowing. The customary remix comes at us from sometime Hot Creations man Russ Yallop, who turns it on its head thanks to a banging interpretation that’s not lacking in full-on vibes. Cleverly, Yallop slows the track down in parts too - a tactic that cleverly enhances the role of the magnetic baseline. The final original is “Ghetto Groove”, a rubbery tech-house anthem that comes with a catchy undercurrent and another famous vocal sprinkle. Again, the intensity levels are high here, and all things told it’s a stunning way to close off a really excellent EP.

Hot on the heels of their last outing on the label back in October, MAT.JOE are back on their regular MOTHER RECORDINGS label. This time the acclaimed Berlin duo serve up two more sizzling house cuts that are guaranteed to make a big impact. 
Germans MAT.JOE have been taste making producers and DJs for a while now. They release on fine labels like Hot Creations, Toolroom and Gruuv but save their best for Mother, as is the case again here. 

The first cut is JUNGLE FEVER, a slick and atmospheric affair with silvery and slithering percussive loops, deep and rubbery drums and the sort of emotive female vocals that really send crowds wild. Clever effects and lovely, glossy melodies and vocal chants add a summery, humid feel and all in all it makes for a sure fire winner. 
The flip is MUSIC ON, a more boisterous jam with pinging toms and kicks bounding about with tons of energy below. Another expert vocal sample really adds flame to the fire and lots of subtle FX and filter tweaks really make this one jump out of the speakers. House music never sounded so fresh!
All in all, this EP finds both MOTHER RECORDINGS and MAT.JOE in fine form once again.

Roush founder Hector Couto delivers his ‘Tambora’ EP to celebrate the label’s 100th release this August, with fellow Spanish talent German Brigante stepping up on remix duties. A key figure amongst today’s musical landscape, Hector Couto’s position as an artist and respected label owner in his own right has been firmly cemented in recent years. With technical ability far beyond his years in the game, both behind the decks and within the studio, the Spaniard has also welcomed a host of top names to release on Roush since its inception in 2013, including leading talents such as DJ W!LD, DJ Sneak, Steve Lawler and Phil Weeks, plus regular material from core artists such as Neverdogs, Los Pastores and Javi Bora. Following a recent outing on Solardo’s Sola imprint, plus previous material on the likes of VIVa, Hot Creations and Get Physical, here we see the Roush boss deliver an impressive three track offering entitled ‘Tambora’ to celebrate the label’s 100th release in fine fashion. Title cut ‘Tambora’ opens proceedings as Couto lays the focus on rhythmic, rolling organic grooves, skillfully employing low-slung rhythms and swinging snare rolls, whilst ‘Jungle Ruff’ quickly raises the tempo, unveiling a driving bassline, crisp claps and infectious vocal hooks to create a high-octane production geared for the dance floor. Next up, ‘Bass Division’ works together slick percussion patterns and shuffling hats amongst rich stabs, before fellow Spaniard German Brigante unleashes his dynamic interpretation of ‘Tambora’, building on the original production’s arrangement with tough breaks influenced drum licks, hypnotic synths and a wicked 303 lead line.
