It has been a crazy inspiring year and I was lucky to get the opportunity to express that in such a beautiful way. 

Here is a selection of pivotal ambient tracks, a glimpse into French impressionism and synesthesia, contemporary classical, film scores and sound collages from some of my adventures around the world chasing this music dream. 

This was a completely new experience for me, I've never played an ambient set before and never attempted to record music in a Gothic cathedral before. What you're hearing is a mix of line-out and microphone recordings from around the pulpit. 

Of course, with any experiment, the first time is a steep learning curve. Luckily I was invited back to this magnificent place in March 2015 and can't wait to go deeper into this process.

Live @ God Goes Deep, Vor Frue Kirke Copenhagen - November 2014

This is the 116th Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics. These monthly released sessions brings you the best and the most diversity Ambient music can offer. This month  Synthbiont is back with a brand new set  called: Dream or Perception?

This set was recorded live during an ambient sleeping night in a church reconverted into an art atelier in the countryside nearby Groningen. Ethereal and atmospheric sounds, deep dark drones, organic field recordings, and processed samples from the iconic movie Waking Life compose this music trip dedicated to the experience of dreaming. The idea behind the mix was to recreate a oneiric soundscape in which the listener can reflect and explore the conscious/unconscious state of mind, guiding her/him through an emotional and suggestive sonic journey. Music from @abul-mogard, Simone Giud, @simonegatto_qui_ed_ora, @astralindustries, @cryochamberlabel, Silentes/13, and many others.

About:
Synthbiont is Nicoló Faggiani (@__vinylkite__), an Italian DJ and vinyl lover with a deep passion for ambient music living in Groningen, the Netherlands. Together with @tommasogobbo, he founded the ambient project @synthbiont_anassimandrus in early 2019, releasing music for renowned ambient labels and podcast series such as Secuencias Temporales, Deep Electronics, Silent Season, and many others.

Last month I was in Copenhagen playing at Strom Festival & caught Surgeon playing a live modular set at God Goes Deep. He totally hypnotised the church with these droney, minimal, ice-cold tones, I fell asleep leaning against the wall and was roused by spooky dialogue some time later. The sense of space and timing was really powerful and i had that in mind when choosing music for this set.

Again, this is a mix of line out and microphone recordings, so you can get a feel for this amazing space.

The next preview of my new album is out today. It is repetition, that seemingly boring thing which gives us all the magic of music, with its repeats inside repeats.

The track was written for a video chapter of the new AV show story "Yearning for the Infinite". The visualisation shows our cities as duplicated animated structures stretching off into the infinite distance (which I'll post very soon), and tells the story of our endless societal growth, with the music telling the same story by what means it can. Perhaps you'll find it a maddening listen, I hope not. For me there's always been something special about musical simplicity, like there's nowhere to hide, and if there's only two chords, they better be good ones. Also the track is for escaping the 5 second socials attention span thing, it needs a few minutes to work, ideally eyes closed headphones on, if you can spare me the time I promise it will be worth it!

Ambient Meditations Vol 24 - Kruder & Dorfmeister

I’ve made a little ambient mix of some of my all time favourite peaceful music.

The mix was originally made for a clinical trial for people undergoing something of a reconstructive therapy. It was designed to repeatedly and slowly transition between relaxed reflection, and stimulation of new thoughts, running for a 2 hrs 30 mins session. You’ll probably hear what I mean in the structure.

It also includes some unreleased music of mine which hasn’t been heard before, alongside many of the most beautiful pieces I could find. I hope you enjoy it.

Max Cooper is an electronic composer, multi-disciplinary artist, music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art.

He holds a PhD in computational biology at the same time as being the first contemporary electronic musician to perform at the ancient Acropolis theatre in Athens and one of the first clutch of musicians to produce in Dolby Atmos.

Cooper has enquired for over 15 years through music, collaborations, and his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos and live events.  Anchored throughout is his emotive approach, connecting how ideas and forms feel, in a manner accessible to us all. 
 
As an artist synonymous with the evolution of club culture, Cooper honed his craft as a DJ with a 10 year residency at legendary Midlands techno event Firefly where he formed a foundational relationship with Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on extravagant immersive installations.

"I want to encourage the acceptance of electronic music as an art form like any other. Bringing electronic music and abstract audio-visual projects into concert halls, museums and galleries is liberating - the art world opens up doors to communicate in ways that aren’t possible elsewhere."
  
Pivoting from computational biology to electronic music might not seem like the most natural career transition, but for Cooper the commonalities are obvious:
 
"In both fields, you're in a sense, free. Free from the limits of living systems, free from the limits of corporeal sound. The only constraints are in your mind."
