“(I Hate The Sound Of) Guitars”, Xinobi’s new single is, above all, an under-covered uplifting song. It's dark and epic; simultaneously discordant and melodic and it can capture the deepest feelings on people. It goes deep on House and, somehow, happy on Disco. It really works as a party track without being it exclusively. And it's catchy.

Xinobi has been opening its way through the dance scene on the back of highly successful singles like “Day Off” or “The Best of Me” (both released on Kris Menace’s label Work it Baby), “X Marks The Spot” (in collaboration with Moullinex), a number of remixes (Kris Menace, Zimmer, Rubix, Toro Y Moi, Saarid, Moullinex…) and an incredible touring schedule that takes him all over the world. Xinobi’s influences are as diverse as his record collection consequently his productions are eclectic and self-freshened as it’s not easy not to get surprised every time he releases something. Although you can simply label it as Disco / House / Electro / Techno, the truth is that there is a unique watermark on his sound. That versatility is also visible in his performances. You can travel from fresh-funk to a deeper mood without losing consistency as he can soundtrack from Miami palm-trees to Berlin cold nights; and everything in between.

Xinobi - (I Hate The Sound of) Guitars

Rob Clouth is one of my favourite producers out there at the moment, if you've heard any of my sets recently then you will have heard his Vaetxh stuff in there, the glitchy super-detailed madness! So when he turned himself to making an EP for Traum I jumped on the opportunity to get involved with a remix.

His methods and style are very original, so it was quite a difficult remix to make, the track just didn't want to fit into a normal techno format! I ended up going for a really heavy shuffle on the drums and trying to make the track a little more dancefloor in it's arrangement, but I wanted to try and keep the approach of the original too so I introduced a lot of complexity into the drums, as Rob said, it's like a lattice of details. So here it is, I hope you like it, and if you're going to do one thing this year, then give the rest of the EP a good listen, in my opinion it's the best release of the year in this genre, properly amazing stuff from Rob Clouth.

Max Cooper is an electronic composer, multi-disciplinary artist, music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art.

He holds a PhD in computational biology at the same time as being the first contemporary electronic musician to perform at the ancient Acropolis theatre in Athens and one of the first clutch of musicians to produce in Dolby Atmos.

Cooper has enquired for over 15 years through music, collaborations, and his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos and live events.  Anchored throughout is his emotive approach, connecting how ideas and forms feel, in a manner accessible to us all. 
 
As an artist synonymous with the evolution of club culture, Cooper honed his craft as a DJ with a 10 year residency at legendary Midlands techno event Firefly where he formed a foundational relationship with Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on extravagant immersive installations.

"I want to encourage the acceptance of electronic music as an art form like any other. Bringing electronic music and abstract audio-visual projects into concert halls, museums and galleries is liberating - the art world opens up doors to communicate in ways that aren’t possible elsewhere."
  
Pivoting from computational biology to electronic music might not seem like the most natural career transition, but for Cooper the commonalities are obvious:
 
"In both fields, you're in a sense, free. Free from the limits of living systems, free from the limits of corporeal sound. The only constraints are in your mind."
