Darkroom Dubs is as it always has been, all about the music. There are no winners in war only suffering. However like most, we hope for a peaceful resolution to the current conflict in the Middle East. Furthermore, like all of us we feel the most innocent should be protected. One of our artists, Dimitri Veimar wished to make a statement through his music and we fully support him in that.

Sometimes I turn up to a gig for my 6am slot, and the room is pitch black, deafening, and sweat is dripping off the roof, and I think, hmm, what should I play?

A lot of my solo tracks aren't quite right for this sort of atmosphere, so I've been working on a new project designed more for dark sweaty holes in which we like to spend our weekends.

It's a collaboration with someone I have been working with for many years, who is releasing under the new name - Satirist. The first vinyl + digital release coming next week on Berlin's Killekill label. No pretty melodies this time. The name I will be releasing this work under is - SKEW (because it's a bit off).

"Shake That!" is a song by German band Scooter.  Shake the Mind however is a far superior track by Matt Walsh. It is by all accounts a bit of a belter. 

Matt Walsh has been lurking in our ears for many a year now. We're massive fans of his consistently and increasingly excellent Clouded Vision label. So much so he was one of our early Label Love-ees. With this new release though we think he's really hit on something rather special. 

Mr Daniel Avery has turned in a remix on the flip of this double A-Side but our vote sits firmly in the Original camp on this one... good job he's been so kind as to premiere it really isn't it?

PREMIERE: Matt Walsh - Shake The Mind - Clouded Vision

Raised in Detroit, later shaped in Berlin and New York, Rioux's productions are what he describes as "labyrinthine"  – merging the digital with the natural in a surrealist pop form. Following on from a collaborative endeavour with an astrophysicist and a shape-shifting collage video, Rioux's first offering for 2016 comes in the form of "Prime Matter".

~4 minutes of Hallowe'en-esque house music, peppered throughout with echoing steel drums, a slowly blossoming bassline and haunting vocals. This enigmatic track builds on Rioux's notion of "a state of energy in its raw, potential form", and the pre-empted state of being on the cusp of a great transformation, and the "test" that it comes with.

"Prime Matter" drops via Human Pitch on February 5th.

With 4 releases under their belt and more to follow, it clearly shows the alliance between Hunter/Game and the Icelandic band Kura, can do no wrong. Their band, Landside, is now primed to get an accompanying remix EP following up from ‘Signs of Change’ and ‘Desert Lake’.

Drawing their inspiration from a cumulation of music that inspires them, they call up a diverse selection of artists to the task, which present an astonishingly coherent vision. From the stormy modulated chords of Robert Hood and trickling pads crafted by Etapp Kyle, to the dystopian narratives expressed by Bambounou and Edanticonf, the re-visionings provide additional star-power to what is already a fine, shimmering series.

Max Cooper is an electronic composer, multi-disciplinary artist, music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art.

He holds a PhD in computational biology at the same time as being the first contemporary electronic musician to perform at the ancient Acropolis theatre in Athens and one of the first clutch of musicians to produce in Dolby Atmos.

Cooper has enquired for over 15 years through music, collaborations, and his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos and live events.  Anchored throughout is his emotive approach, connecting how ideas and forms feel, in a manner accessible to us all. 
 
As an artist synonymous with the evolution of club culture, Cooper honed his craft as a DJ with a 10 year residency at legendary Midlands techno event Firefly where he formed a foundational relationship with Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on extravagant immersive installations.

"I want to encourage the acceptance of electronic music as an art form like any other. Bringing electronic music and abstract audio-visual projects into concert halls, museums and galleries is liberating - the art world opens up doors to communicate in ways that aren’t possible elsewhere."
  
Pivoting from computational biology to electronic music might not seem like the most natural career transition, but for Cooper the commonalities are obvious:
 
"In both fields, you're in a sense, free. Free from the limits of living systems, free from the limits of corporeal sound. The only constraints are in your mind."
