if i had a hundred thousand
i would buy a car
something cheap to try to stretch my money really far
the rest ’d keep it in my savings in case i got a chance
to move into a condo and in my life advance

i’d invest in stocks
in all the biggest names, nothing out of the box
i’d take the safest bets, and hope i came up big
so someday i could sell them, after all the market’s rigged

and If i had a thousand
i’d finally pay my rent
i’d wonder why it takes so long to earn what’s quickly spent
i’d slave away at awful jobs that take away my soul
i’d do just what it takes to keep my life under control

i’d eat at some place fancy and try to get a deal
i’d order two big entrees and have myself a feast
and even though it cost me i’d have eaten there at least

i’d buy a pack of smokes
to quell the strong anxiety that not having can invoke
the smokes would cure my hunger and keep me on my toes
in case i need to steal something, cuz that’s the way it goes

if i had a dollar
i’d have nothing to buy
id just sit in a public place and hang my head and cry
cuz nothing costs a dollar and nothing here is free
we’ll all be slaves to money for all eternity
