@pbrstreetgang are celebrating their 20th Anniversary with the release of a superb compilation of their work from across their career. During that period they have released on Futureboogie, Throne Of Blood, 2020Vision, Hot Creations, Crosstown Rebels and Skint Records and remixed Kylie, Lana Del Rey, Bryan Ferry, Hot Chip and Friendly Fires and that’s just the tip of the ice berg.

They are a duo who have immersed themselves in club music and that dedication flows through their musical DNA.

The compilation straddles the whole 20 years from their early originals right through some of their finest remixes including never previously pressed gems from Bryan Ferry, Hot Chip and Romanthony.

Today we share one of their finest early moments, the monstrous bass driven house throbber Downstroke. It’s a sure fire floor filler all day long.

New Zealand disco-boogie outfit Flamingo Pier plant some Brooklyn roots with their fresh new ‘Beneath the Neon EP’ on Razor-N-Tape. Known for parties in East London and their massive hometown festival, as well as previous releases on Soundway, the Kiwi collective deliver a trio of new songs that solidify and expand their signature danceable blue-eyed indie-soul sound.

Lead off single How 2 Feel shows a clubbier side of the band, with a pulsating house rhythm track and layers of angular synth stabs, vibey horn lines, and vocal chants. Beneath the Neon and Remedy are more familiar Flamingo Pier territory, upbeat indie disco anthems that boast incendiary vocal hooks, funky guitar work, and crisp production by Luke Walker.

Rounding out the EP are remixes by Chicago house legend Glenn Underground, and RNT co-head JKriv, whose mix features a guest appearance by Afro-boogie royalty Steve Monite.

Oozing with hazy sun, Beneath the Neon is the perfect soundtrack to soak up the dog days of summer.

Max Essa has been active as a producer and DJ since the early 90s, initially releasing music on labels including Warp Records and Paper Recordings and DJing alongside the infamous D.i.Y Sound System.

His later work, for labels like Is It Balearic? Recordings, went on to be play-listed by legends such as Andrew Weatherall and David Mancuso, gaining him a devoted following and DJ bookings around the world. 

Albums for the Japanese major label, Victor Entertainment ('Vacations Never Taken' 2015) and Music For Dreams ('Lanterns' 2018), plus EPs for the Italian label, Hell Yeah! Recordings and a constant stream of remixes for labels like Compost, Ubiquity, Faze Action and Leng have shown him to be a prolific and deeply imaginative producer.

Since 2008 he has been based in Japan where he plays regularly at clubs and events around the country, from Hokkaido to Okinawa.
From 2010 - 2023 he was a resident DJ at the Lone Star parties, and later the Zim Zam Zu! events at the legendary, Bar Bonobo and for over a decade has been a resident at the ever popular, Aoyama Tunnel in Tokyo.
